PRIMARY DETAIL Salary Package: HEW Level 5 including 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading Appointment type: Full-time, continuing role Location: Macquarie University, Wallumattagal Campus (North Ryde) THE ROLE An excellent opportunity to join a highly collaborative and supportive teaching environment at the Macquarie University Special Education Centre (MUSEC) in the position of Special Education Teacher as MUSEC expands with an additional class in 2024. The class will consist of 6 Y4-Y6 students with a focus on a functional, engaging program which includes swimming, horse-riding, and bushwalking with a strong focus on communication. Experience working with AAC would be an advantage. In contributing to the learning and development of primary aged students with special learning needs, you will work closely with Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Sports Coaches and Classroom Assistants in designing, delivering and assessing educational programs. Furthermore, the Special Education Teacher plays a key role in the learning experience of postgraduate students on professional placements by modelling evidence based special education teaching methodologies and has a unique opportunity to support and participate in research-based activities relevant to MUSEC. ABOUT YOU Accredited with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), you will have a recognised teaching qualification and/or working towards completion of a Special Education qualification. You will be experienced in teaching in primary classroom environments, with demonstrated experience developing and implementing evidence-based teaching programs and resources that meet the needs of primary aged students between K-6 with a range of special learning needs. You will possess a knowledge of positive teaching practices to support students' engagement in lessons. Key features of the MUSEC program include: Intensive small group instruction in literacy and numeracy by specialist teachers Program adjustment based on progress monitoring, ensuring individualised programs Support students to develop skills to remain emotionally regulated Assistance in the development of speech /language and communication skills Collaboration with parents Assistance for student's transition to their next educational setting Working within a supportive and collaborative teaching environment, the MUSEC classroom team structure comprises of Special Education Teachers, Classroom Assistants, a Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Sports Coach and a Visual Arts Teacher.
