MacKillop Education, Maidstone, is a Special Assistance School (Grades 3-6) that caters for children and young people who are disengaged or at risk of disengaging from mainstream education. The students referred to MacKillop have a history and/or ongoing experience of trauma and their needs are complex and diverse; self-regulation is difficult for our students, and this can result in challenging social and emotional behaviours. We have 1x Permanent Full-time opportunity available based in Maidstone, VIC within our MacKillop Education Program (part-time may be considered for the right candidate). About the role: The Learning & Teaching Leader will lead and model the design and delivery of learning programs that meet the needs of all students and is compliant with curriculum requirements. In collaboration with Local Leadership Team and Engagement and Transitions Leader, they lead and contribute to the development of trauma-informed education programs appropriate to the identified learning and wellbeing requirements of children with complex and diverse needs, who have often experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect. They are data informed and seek improved learning outcomes. They also actively develop the capacity of the staff team, with a particular focus on trauma-informed pedagogy, literacy and numeracy. Positions of Leadership (POLs) are a two-year appointment, in addition to an ongoing Generalist Teacher role. This role includes a classroom teaching load. Classrooms are capped at students per class with 2 educators per room. Key Selection Criteria: To be successful in this role, you will have: A four-year teaching qualification or equivalent and eligibility for Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people and their families. Demonstrated effective leadership skills, including alignment with our values, a commitment to trauma-informed practice, a willingness to embrace the ReLATE Education Model and Sanctuary Commitments and an ability to lead colleagues to improve their Learning & Teaching intervention skills. Demonstrated experience in differentiating teaching and learning, providing adjustments and applying the principals of Universal Design for Learning, to respond to the diverse learning needs of students. Demonstrated ability to successfully support the implementation and evaluation of the school’s Learning & Teaching intervention program – literacy and numeracy.
