The Role: We are looking for a Consultant Medicine with (Subspecialty dual trained physicians) with subspecialty in Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, Neurology or Geriatrics would be desirable, all would be considered on application to join a dedicated team in a sunny regional coastal setting. You will assist the Clinical Director in the provision of high-quality services, working in a "state of the art” hospital Salary package up to $514,450 Clinicians working here enjoy a challenging and rewarding clinical case mix that includes busy inpatient and outpatient general medicine, paediatrics, surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics & gynaecology, and mental health services. These core inpatient services are well integrated with active emergency medicine, anaesthetic and intensive care departments and supported by a wide range of allied health services. Specialty services are provided by tertiary hospitals in Townsville and Brisbane, including a strong undergraduate teaching affiliation with James Cook University. About the Department The Department of Medicine is a vibrant, collaborative, and supportive workplace. The Staff Specialist will be part of a team comprising of physicians with different subspecialties (including endocrinology, respiratory, infectious disease, oncology, neurology, nephrology, acute medicine etc) working in close partnership with cardiology (who provide 24/7 Primary PCI service), emergency medicine (FACEM lead) and intensive care (CICM led). Your opportunity The dual trained Staff Specialist role will be comprised of 0.5FTE General Medicine and 0.5FTE sub-specialty duties on an alternating fortnightly basis. The General Medicine role will include rotating through the Acute Assessment Unit and General Medicine Teams as well as participating in the on-call and weekend roster. The sub-specialty role will involve inpatient consultation, outpatient specialty clinics and relevantprocedural lists. Close collaboration with specialty peers from other centres will be supported and encouraged. Single-trained General and Acute Medicine Fellows will rotate through the Acute Assessment Unit and General medicine Teams as well as participate in the on-call and weekend roster. The Staff Specialist will get to work with a clinical case mix that is broad, challenging and very professionally satisfying. The position is responsible for assisting the Director in provision of high-quality clinical services as part of the Department of Medicine, education of Medical Staff and Students, Allied Health, interested Community Groups and Nursing Staff. The position will involve active participation in patient safety, audit, research, and service planning activities. The staff Specialist will be supported by a full team of junior doctors including BPTs, PHOs, RMOs and Interns. There is currently one Advanced Trainee in General Medicine, Oncology and Rehabilitation, with space to add one more General Medicine Advanced Trainee. Remuneration Package up to: Base Salary $258,910 Motor Vehicle Allowance $25,500 Professional Development Allowance $ 21,500 Attraction and Retention (50%) – Assignment $129,455 Rural and Regional (10%) $25,891 Locality Allowance (if applicable $378 Estimated Remuneration (excluding superannuation) $461,634 Superannuation Estimate $52,818 The Hospital: This “state of the art” Hospital is equipped with leading edge technology to assist staff to provide the highest level of care and comfort to the patients. The hospital provides specialist services in obstetrics, gynaecology, paediatrics, orthopaedics, psychiatry, urology and oncology and many other specialty areas. Mandatory: Mandatory possession of a medicine degree from a registered tertiary institution and; Registration with the Medical Board of Australia with Specialist registration in General Medicine or Subspecialty or appropriate registration with the Medical Board of Australia to practise in the specialist position. Fellowship or eligibility for Fellowship via the substantial comparability pathway of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP). Mandatory possession of a qualification from a registered tertiary institution and Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency with a current annual practicing certificate is essential.
