About the role We have a golden opportunity for a school based apprentice Chef to join our Aged Care facility kitchen at Birkdale. Attending site 1 day per week during school term and full time hours during school holidays the school based apprentice Chef will complete an accredited qualification to become a fully qualified Chef. A key function of the role is to assist with the effective and efficient overall operations of the kitchen. The successful incumbent will maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen, they will take part in accreditation, OH&S, infection control programs within the kitchen with a specific focus on the needs of the customer. About you You will have a flexible, caring, patient attitude. You will have a preparedness to work to the 10 principles of the Eden Alternative philosophy. Qualifications Enrolled in a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery Skills: A genuine interest in cooking An ability to work in accordance with various state based health regulations and the Food Safety Act Ability to gain knowledge of dietary requirements for the elderly An ability to participate in audits of food handling procedures across MiCare An ability to work in a culturally sensitive manner within an ethno-specific environment An ability to understand international cuisine To maintain an efficient meal service for elders with a high nutritional value To assist in catering for large off site functions such as festivals An ability to follow directions and work in a team environment A flexible, caring and patient attitude A police check with no disclosable outcome, medicare evidence of current flu vaccination and a COVID-19 vaccination is required by MiCare for this position.
