Reporting to the Centre Manager, you will be an advocate for children, believe in quality early education and the value of relationships, and be willing to collaborate with the university community. In return you will enjoy competitive pay plus a range of salary packaging options and other benefits including: Education and professional development opportunities Paid lunch breaks with no requirement to remain on premises Paid staff meetings & generous release time Free access - Macquarie University Sport & Aquatic Centre Additional paid concessional leave days Access to our staff wellbeing program, staff support services, & employee flu shot program Discounted corporate health insurance 25% discount at Campus Life outlets on campus KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Develop, implement, evaluate the educational program, including developmental records Demonstrate a knowledge of child development Interact respectfully and positively with children and families Work positively, respectfully, and collaboratively with a large, diverse team Maintain a current understanding of the EYLF and National Quality Standards Support and contribute to all diversity, equity, and inclusion activities Demonstrate a commitment to professional development and continuous improvement Collaborate in the design, planning, implementation and evaluation of action research projects with the Macquarie School of Education Facilitate the conduct of research activities and projects within the Macquarie School of Education alongside Academics from the University Supervise a small team and manage team performance with support from the Centre Manager Undertake the Responsible Person and/or Room Leader roles as required Follow approved policies and procedures to help keep children safe (child protection, supervision, health, and wellbeing) QUALIFICATIONS & OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS ACECQA approved Degree in early childhood education Current NESA Accreditation Approved First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis qualification Working with Children Check Food Handling training (as of December 2023) Approved Identify and Respond to Children and Young People at Risk of Harm qualification (Casuals exempt) Computer literacy eg Office 365 Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Australia Previous experience working with children aged 0-5 years is desirable You share our organisational values of Courage, Agility, Rigour, Empowerment and Support (CARES) and commit to these being visible in your actions and words. SELECTION CRITERIA Holds all qualifications and training specified as required for the role Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, evaluating and critically reflecting to provide high-quality, inclusive, educational programs Proven understanding of child development and knowledge of appropriate strategies for interacting with young children Demonstrated experience in effectively supervising and children and maintaining a clean and safe environment Experience in supervising a team, including ability to coach and develop staff, and providing feedback Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and model best practice and continuous improvement Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills Sound understanding and knowledge of the regulations and laws related to early childhood (eg Child Protection, NQF, WHS) Ability and willingness to contribute to a positive and inclusive team culture ABOUT US Mia Mia is the early childhood demonstration school for the Macquarie School of Education, providing students, researchers, academics, and other educators with premium opportunities for professional learning, mentoring, observation, and research.
