About the branch The Inquiries, Prosecutions and Administrative Law (IPA) Branch is responsible for specialist litigation and advice in relation to regulation, administrative law and disciplinary reviews, inquiries and Royal Commissions. The branch comprises some 60 staff and collaborates with other VGSO branches as needed. The legal demands across the teams encompass investigations and criminal procedure, merits review of administrative decisions, professional disciplinary proceedings and summary prosecutions, information sharing, privacy, freedom of information and integrity body inquiries. The branch is also responsible for the establishment of Royal Commissions, management of notices to produce (including document review), witness and hearing preparation, briefing and instructing counsel, State submissions and strategic responses, project management and reporting. At times, the branch also provides litigation legal services on state care, personal injury and negligence claims. About the role We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Solicitor to join the Inquiries, Prosecutions & Administrative Law Branch (IPA) and provide high quality legal services and advice to government clients. This role will sit within the Inquiries Team and be involved in undertaking the following type of legal services: Establishment of Royal Commissions Management of notices to produce including document review Witness and hearing preparation Briefing and instructing counsel State submissions and strategic responses Project management and reporting Skills and experience Previous experience working on large scale litigation matters or Royal Commission/Inquiries would be highly desirable Previous experience with document management/discovery related tasks would be highly desirable Ability to provide oral and written advice on complex and sensitive matters Proven ability to perform high quality legal research and analysis Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively in a team and build positive relationships with stakeholders Superior time management skills and the ability to multi-task Benefits VGSO offers an inclusive, collegiate and collaborative work environment where you will be well-supported and mentored to develop your knowledge.
