Due to an internal promotion, a new opportunity as Senior Legal Counsel has arisen within our energetic and high-performing Corporate Advisory Legal Team. The Corporate Advisory Legal Team provides strategic legal support to a range of central business unit functions within Coles, including advising the Coles business development (M&A), treasury and company secretary teams. The Corporate Advisory team also supports some of Coles' joint venture arrangements, including our Flybuys and QVC liquor joint ventures. About the roleReporting to the Managing Legal Counsel, you'll be a senior lawyer in the Corporate Advisory Legal Team and responsible for supporting on a wide variety of legal work in the team, including (but not limited to) mergers and acquisitions. You'll also be responsible for leading and managing junior lawyers in the team of varying levels of experience and specialties. You will be empowered to partner with a broad range of stakeholders both within and outside Coles (including senior Coles business stakeholders, external lawyers, advisors and regulators). This role provides a great opportunity to jump into an exciting and interesting range of work. You'll join a close-knit supportive team where you'll be given the space and trust to run your own matters. You'll also: • Provide strategic and proactive legal guidance with minimal to moderate supervision.• Participate in the delivery of legal services and support the functions that the Corporate Advisory Legal Team supports.• Support implementation of new and improved processes and work practices.• Engage in the development of the Legal Team's strategic objectives.• Assist in supporting lawyers on wellbeing and professional development. About you and your skills You'll have legal experience at a senior level, either coming from a reputable law firm or in-house at a large corporate. With at least 5 years' of legal experience you ideally bring experience working on M&A transactions. You'll also have:• Experience in providing advice to minimise legal risk and assisting to reduce financial and reputational exposure.• Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.• An interest or prior experience in leading and managing junior lawyers, including in delegation and mentoring.• Experience in thinking strategically and providing commercially focused advice.• Experience in identifying, evaluating and implementing new and improved processes and work practices to improve legal services delivery and efficiency.• Ability to lead by example and strong alignment with Coles' values and behaviours.
