Production Database Administrator — The Rocks, Sydney

Who we are looking for A Production Database Administrator, who will be responsible for maintaining the day to day availability of all database servers, whilst working under pressure to resolve time sensitive issues. The Production Database team is responsible for supporting multiple database technologies and their environments ensuring they have good performance, availability, scalability and security. In this role, every millisecond counts in the running of the website and our systems. Working in a hugely demanding data environment with thousands of transactions taking place every second, the opportunities to develop as a data professional within our Company are second to none. You will be providing office cover on a shift pattern between the hours of 07:00 to 19:00 in order to fit into the Follow The Sun model with our UK offices. This role is eligible for inclusion in the Company's hybrid working from home policy. Preferred skills and experience Commercial experience of the following database technologies; SQL Server and PostgreSQL. Experience of SQL Server high availability features including replication, CDC and log shipping. Strong knowledge of windows failover clustering and Powershell. Experience of large databases in a high concurrency and high throughput environment. Good performance monitoring and troubleshooting skills. Experience with systems in an environment with varied complex applications and database architectures. Strong communication and presentation skills supported by a high level of energy and persuasion. Read more Read less Main Responsibilities Being responsible for day to day availability of all database servers, ensuring high performance and availability of the databases that support the business systems in a 24/7 environment. Being responsible for QA of all UAT and production database releases, ensuring business standards are followed, deployment of fit for purpose code to UAT and Live, driving all requests through the process to completion, having end to end ownership. Following and improving internal processes to ensure accurate and consistent database processes are carried out for production database requests with the support for operational deployments, business intelligence and analytical reporting requirements. Contributing to implementation and maintenance of a cohesive and consistent approach to system monitoring, ensuring that both software and hardware KPI's are reviewed to achieve the business goals. Responding to and resolving ad hoc requests as required to meet business and end user requests. Monitoring and reporting on activity and trends on the database servers and databases to Senior Management to enable a capacity planning strategy to be employed. Reporting and maintaining a backup strategy for databases. Setting up and upgrading installation of all database servers, ensuring that the correct hardware configuration, covering disk and storage requirements are in place to provide high availability, scalability and optimum performance.
