The Head of Legal & Compliance is an integral role within the Gilead Sciences ANZ Leadership Team and leads the Legal and Compliance function. It is a critical contributor to the to the ongoing success of Gilead Australian and New Zealand business. It is an Associate General Counsel role, based in Melbourne. The Legal & Compliance function in the ANZ business is a team of four including the Head of Legal & Compliance, two other lawyers and a compliance team member. The role reports to the Vice President Legal in the ACE (Australia, Canada, Europe) Region. In addition to the being part of the ANZ affiliate leadership team, the is Head of Legal & Compliance a member of the ACE Legal Leadership Team which includes the Heads of Legal & Compliance within the ACE Region. Summary The Head of Legal & Compliance is responsible for legal and compliance in the ANZ business level as well as a broader leadership role within the local affiliate. The key element is to advise the ANZ business on a variety of legal and compliance topics acting as a business partner, facilitating the development AND legal and compliant solutions. These topics include: pricing and reimbursement; distribution of product, privacy, determining internal policy regarding interactions with healthcare professionals and reviewing / approving meetings and events. It is essential for the Head of Legal & Compliance to be proactive, engaged with their internal clients, work collaboratively within the Legal & Compliance team and the business, able to set appropriate priorities and deliver results within established timelines. Specific Role The Head of Legal & Compliance: Supports the General Manager, the local senior management team. Is an impactful and influencing member of the local ANZ Leadership team. Develops solutions to solve complex problems. Takes direct responsibility for appropriate matters, areas of responsibility, and client business partners including some of: Commercial and trade operations Regulatory affairs Medical affairs Finance Clinical operations Market Access Specific therapeutic areas HR and ER issues Corporate governance Works collaboratively with other members of legal departments as well as internal client business partners. Sets appropriate priorities with client business partners and delivers results within the established timelines. Contributes to multidisciplinary and international projects, leads legal oriented projects, and takes responsibility for legal aspects of projects. Manages, leads, and further develops the ANZ Legal and Compliance team to achieve team and function priorities. Is an active member of the ACE Legal Leadership Team Knowledge, Experience & Skills: The ideal candidate is a highly motivated pro-active self-starter with a high dedication and natural interest to legal topics in life-science industry. Specific experience in the following areas is very advantageous: pharmaceutical law, law on advertising in the health care sector, reimbursement of medicines in the Australian and New Zealand jurisdictions, contract law, competition law, business and corporate law, intellectual property law, and employment law. Typical Education & Experience: Fully qualified lawyer Australia and beneficially New Zealand. Fully admitted to practice applicable laws in the country or jurisdictions of responsibility. Preferably 10 years of industry or law firm experience. Experience in pharmaceuticals, biotech or other highly regulated industry preferred. Experience with PBS listing and negotiation is specifically desirable.
