About the role In this dynamic client facing role, you will be a member of a major customer's Technical Ops team. This collaborative group is responsible for delivering improved business outcomes through continuous improvement of the IT infrastructure, with a particular focus on tooling and automation. The team has been put front and centre of the customer's IT strategy on how they are going to contribute to the business's success. Whilst not responsible for day to day troubleshooting and management on the network, will be responsible for continuously refining and automating those processes through the practice of Network Reliability Engineering. A further core aim is to enable a fully observable network, with rich telemetry data available to maximise reliability and performance through predictive analytics and AI/ML. We are seeking a mix of skills across network and systems engineering, data analytics, network automation. Proficiency in all skills below is not required, but a willingness to learn is. Equally important to skillset is mindset. We are looking for people that are passionate about continuous improvement and operational excellence. The right candidate will bring software engineering thinking to the network environment and will instinctively seek to solve problems using 'network as code'. Your accountabilities Proactive management - using data to maximise the value of the network in supporting customer business needs Analyse datasets from across the network and deliver meaningful insight to support better business decision making Use network data to forecast future needs and develop capacity plans Implement security compliance checks and vulnerability reporting Tooling - continuous development of tooling to support a fully observable network Determine, discover and capture network event data needed to support effective monitoring. Items include but not limited to; tuning SNMP MIB parameters to capture items such as QoS performance, packet loss, latency and memory usage. Create and maintain dynamic dashboards to present network telemetry Develop and improve telemetry and alerting Map traffic flows and connect them to the business processes to help visualise impact of network outages Network Reliability Engineering - automate as much of the BAU network management as possible. Create automated network provisioning workflows using tools such as Yang, NETCONF, XML, Ansible, Python etc Develop and automate preventative maintenance tasks to improve availability and performance of the network Implement self-healing workflows supported by AI operations to resolve network incidents Establish and manage the CI/CD pipeline with inline automated testing General responsibilities Plan and execute in depth technical activity, influencing the direction of activities/plans and providing technical insight and guidance to others Support Problem Management investigations Spread knowledge and learning throughout the support ecosystem Skills required Specific Skills Required Demonstrable understanding of and experience with networking fundamentals Intent based networking Network as code Network types and media Switching fundamentals TCP/IP IP addressing and routing Operating and configuring IOS devices Management of network environments Desirable Familiarity with Cisco DNA Centre (Strongly Desirable) Demonstrable ability to utilise and configure network management tools (eg. ThousandEyes, SevOne, SolarWinds NCM, Riverbed Alluvio) (Strongly Desirable) CCNA or better Cisco DevNet Familiarity with DevOps tools such as JIRA, Ansible, Jenkins, Python, Docker Familiarity with ServiceNow API development skills At least five years' previous experience working with complex global mission critical Cisco networks About us BT is part of BT Group, along with EE, Openreach, and Plusnet.
