The Discipline of Social Work at the University of Canberra is in an exciting phase of expansion and innovation. Following the appointment of our inaugural Professor of Social Work and additional academic staff, we are now seeking a passionate and dedicated Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander individual for the position of Lecturer in Social Work to support of a major strategic program to grow student numbers, the Education Transformation and Growth Program (ETaG). This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of our new Master of Social Work (Qualifying) program, delivered online with on-campus teaching and professional placements in collaboration with our partner Keypath. This role reporting to the head of discipline entails spearheading innovative teaching and research efforts to enhance social work education's quality and reputation. Responsibilities include developing stakeholder relationships, collaborating on interdisciplinary activities, designing industry-aligned assessments, providing dedicated student support, engaging in impactful research, and pursuing continuous professional development in educational innovation. The position offers a dynamic opportunity to contribute significantly to the growth and excellence of social work education. The ideal candidate should have: Masters or PhD in Social Work or a related field, with a willingness to pursue a PhD if not already obtained. Membership or eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Minimum of 5 years of practical experience in social work. Demonstrate a strong record of teaching excellence and innovation Additionally, the candidate should have established professional networks within the social work or human services sector, showcasing the ability to build new collaborative relationships. A proven track record in research activities, established networks within Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities, cultural competence, and a sound understanding of social work principles are also essential attributes for this role. Note: This position has a strong involvement with and requires a deep understanding of the issues relating to and affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, as well as an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively in this regard.
