The Moreton Bay Boys' College is seeking a suitably qualified Primary Learning Support Teacher to join the team. THE COLLEGE Established in 2003 MBBC is a P – 12 boys’ school set in the leafy bayside suburb of Manly West. It currently has 500 plus enrolments. At MBBC the Primary School consists of Years Prep to 6 with the Primary School Years 7 – 12. Teachers use the Primary Years Program (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate to plan inquiry-based, differentiated units covering all aspects of the Australian Curriculum. Senior boys follow the QCAA pathways with the majority of boys obtaining an ATAR. THE POSITION The role of the Learning Support Teacher in the Primary School is focused on catering for the needs of students who require extra literacy assistance to reach their potential. This involves facilitating and enhancing learning experiences and providing practical support for students, staff and parents. All teachers are appointed by the Principal and they are responsible to them for the over-all performance of their duties. The Principal delegates their authority to senior staff members for the effective management of the College. All staff need to be supportive of the values, Christian ethos and Ethical Statement of this Uniting Church Day school for boys from P-12. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The duties of the Primary Learning Support Teacher encompass: Technical Practices to Support Teaching and Learning Diagnostic assessment of individuals, small groups and class groups including new students, including standardised and Literacy Analysis tests. Case load Manager for Prep – Year 6, including writing Personal Learning Plans, meeting with parents and Teachers as well as liaising with external providers onsite e.g. Speech Therapists and Occupational Therapists. Reading Intervention classes (using reading intervention programs and strategies for Lower and Upper Primary Students) Decodable and MacqLit experience preferrable. Aspects of other assessment e.g. Adjustments for NAPLAN . Proficient with Reading Eggs, the Accelerated Reading Program and Decodables. Support with Primary Years Program including Year 6 Exhibition. Annual NCCD collection of Data. Liaise with Primary Teacher Aides in both the classroom and the Learning Enhancement team to provide student support. Yearly timetabling of Primary Learning Enhancement in class support hours. Preparing Camp Management Forms. Liaise with School Guidance Officer. Attend weekly Primary Staff Meetings and Year level meetings. Recording and Reporting Record keeping of all assessment results and reports. Analysis of statistics e.g Reading data (PM’s) Communicating results of assessment and professional reports to staff. Referrals Referrals to outside agencies. Organisation and regular communication with visiting therapists (Speech and O.T) as well as Advisory Visiting Teachers. Teaching and Learning Individual and small group withdrawal for Reading Intervention and whole class teaching as required. Staff Communication Specific Roles Teachers Support for all teachers in dealing with students with a Learning Disorder or Disability; including Domestic EAL/D, in the classroom. This support includes: Assistance with resources; including scaffolding and Chunking, graphic organisers and sensory tools. Information about specific teaching and learning practices. Writing Personal Learning Plans in conjunction with the class teacher. Supervision of the implementation of Personal Learning Plans. Assisting with curriculum differentiation for students with a Learning Disorder or Disability. Attendance at Parent Meetings as required. Providing specific professional development sessions as required. Liaise with the Learning Enhancement Coordinator. Attendance at fortnightly meetings with Head of Primary and Counsellor. Teacher Aides Support for Aides who work with designated Primary students or groups of Primary students. This support includes: Development of Reading programs; MacqLit and other decodable programs. Assistance with resources. Skills training in the Use of Assistive Technology. Supervision of program implementation. Parents Proactive and consistent communication. Ability to communicate student needs to parents in a positive, caring and confident way that promotes effective collaboration. SKILLS AND ABILITIES A passion for Reading. Self-motivation, personal drive and initiative. Ability to foster collaborative decision-making leading to the facilitation of effective change. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Relate to and manage a range of learners including twice exceptional students. Well developed organisational and administrative skills. Strong effective communication skills. Ability to generate and implement policy and procedures. Strategic planning ability, working with curriculum leaders to develop and document action plans. Ability to facilitate and chair meetings and work with staff and parents in a variety of subject areas to design and implement student-centred learning experiences. High level of IT competency including use of Microsoft Edge, Dragon Dictation Software, Dictate, Word, Excel, Email and PowerPoint. Ability to work in partnership with students, parents and classroom teachers to achieve the best possible outcome for each individual student. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE The Classroom Teacher Must hold an appropriate tertiary qualification – Diploma or degree in Education. Appropriate qualifications in Learning Support. Have an understanding of the. Australian Curriculum CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers. WORK ENVIRONMENT An office workspace is provided. Daily tasks are conducted anywhere within the College. CONDITIONS AND SALARY This is a Part Time 0.8 FTE role with salary as per classifications within the Moreton Bay Boys’ College Enterprise Agreement. Sick Leave entitlement of 10 days annually. Long Service Leave entitlement of 1.3 weeks for each year of service, which can be taken after 7 years. The College contributes superannuation as per the Moreton Bay Boys’ College Enterprise Agreement.
