Strategic role to deliver BIG W’s transformation journey Great career development with supportive leadership Innovative, agile and flexible culture The Role We are looking for an experienced Designer to join the BIG W Design Team for a newly created role The ‘Designer’ brings our offer to life by developing great value, inspirational products that our customers & team love. They are customer centric and strive to deliver coordinated ranges, at the best prices that differentiate BIG W. Some responsibilities of the Designer include: Create and develop customer first ranges for multiple categories each season, managing the development and execution of general merchandise products to a value led brief. Understand key customer insights and issues, continuously review the performance of ranges designed, looking for opportunities to refine and continuously improve in order to drive conversion and sales. Partner with the Category Managers to collaborate on the customer strategy for each category, range option plans and target costings in order to develop a commercially viable range that offers targeted and suitable solutions for the customer. Research, understand and interpret design trends and make them relevant and accessible for our customers. Drive progress to meet our group sustainability commitments continuously improving our use of sustainable raw materials and packaging. Deliver ranges that comply with all necessary product safety, quality and responsible sourcing standards. Understand and work within disciplined ways of working to ensure timelines are met, stakeholders are engaged appropriately and processes are efficient and cost effective. Lead and establish a cross collaborative team that adapts to change and is focused on the customer. May manage 1 or more Assistant Designer, coaching and developing them with clear development plans and succession plans, as well as supporting them in the management of their day to day work, ensuring deadlines and KPIs are met. Develop your design experience in consultation with your line manager, building a clear development and training plan. About you To be successful in this role, you will be passionate about delivering customer experiences through product and design On top of having 3-4 years in a design role with general merchandise experience, you would also have: Experience working with a large retail organisation Experience in General Merchandise categories highly desirable; such as Party, Craft, Stationery Experience partnering with a global supply base Understanding of the market and competitive landscape Strong Creative Cloud experience; Illustrator and Photoshop Strong time management and adherence Adaptable and agile to work within cross functional teams and autonomously Ability to partner with suppliers and work to cost led briefs Technical understanding of product design & production process Team Player and willingness to work with broader team members What's in it for you?
