Howden Australia has an immediate need for an enthusiastic Design Engineer to plan and execute complex professional/product engineering work using their individual judgement and initiative in the application of engineering principals, techniques and methods. This role reports to our Chief Engineer and our key products are fans and blowers for mining, industrial and tunnel ventilation applications, including centrifugal, axial and mixed flow types; and screw compressor packages for mine cooling and industrial cooling applications. The role is responsible to ensure that projects and services are executed on budget, on time and to the required engineering and design standards. Your key accountabilities will include: - Planning, coordinating and managing professional engineering works without supervision - Leading the design activities for a specific project, reporting functionally to the Project Manager for those activities - Producing 3D models and coordinating with drafting team to produce manufacturing drawings. - Monitoring and controlling the quality, timeliness and cost of delivery of design works - Managing design resource allocation to maximise efficiency and effectiveness - Administering, both technically and commercially, contracts for external design resources - Planning and managing interfaces between clients, designers, consultants, suppliers, and project staff - Managing the effect of design changes in terms of technical, budget and schedule - Fulfilling the role of Designer, Checker, Verifier, and/or Design Lead in the provision of engineering works. - Certifying professional engineering work as being compliant with relevant codes and standards - Attending site, supplier or customer premises to ascertain or confirm project requirements - Carrying out detailed engineering calculations - Developing detailed designs in sketch and drawing format - Developing technical specification documents and reports - Evaluating and making recommendations on technical aspects of supplier offers - Participating and positively contributing in meetings and workshops - Providing technical support for tendering, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance activities. - Providing ad-hoc technical advice to management, projects and tendering personnel - Conducting ad-hoc tasks which are indirectly related to the position - Continually developing engineering skills - Providing support to drawing office. - Assessing repair work scopes and compiling repair procedures. - Offering solutions to the works regarding manufacturing/ construction non-conformances and rectifications in order to assist the works. - Leading, supervising, guiding and mentoring less experienced engineering staff - Carrying out & verifying work to comply with applicable national & international codes & standards. - Ensuring designs adhere to health and safety standards and comply with legislative requirements thereby providing products where risks of injury have been minimised and thus providing a safe working environment. - Providing input at design reviews to ensure designs are in accordance to Howden standards and conform to clients' requirements. - Planning, coordinating and managing professional engineering work for which it is necessary to modify proven approaches, devising new techniques with a continuous improvement approach. What do you need to bring? It is fundamental that you have an Engineering Degree in an appropriate engineering related discipline and have a minimum of 5 years Design Engineer experience. You'll be a proficient user of 2D CAD and 3D modelling as well as Microsoft Office applications. You have the experience to proactively and creatively solve problems, think laterally and identify corrective actions. You're comfortable working in an autonomous manner, whilst also being a good team player. You display strong stakeholder management capabilities and have the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. The role holder should be self-motivated and self-directed with excellent time management and organizational skills. They will have sound customer service skills, and demonstrate solid engineering judgment in decision making. They will see projects through being results-driven with a keen eye for detail. The following would also be highly regarded: - Broad range of communication both oral and written, with the ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organisation. - Master of Engineering degree - Exposure in manufacturing environment - Proficiency in finite element analysis and results interpretation - Excel coding experience will be preferred - Proficiency in the use of Autodesk software: AutoCAD, Inventor and Vault. - Experience in rotating machinery engineering design To express your interest in this position, please click apply and attach your CV and cover letter.
