Location Townsville, QLD Closing Date Sunday 29 October 2023, 11:59pmThe PositionWe are seeking an experienced Management Accountant who will provide high level support, advice and technical expertise to the Chief Finance Officer and partner with the Reef Authority’s executive and management teams regarding budget performance and advice.As the Assistant Director – Management Accounting, you will be responsible for providing strategic budget advice and insights to stakeholders to ensure informed decision making. You will effectively manage key stakeholder relationships to ensure the timely delivery of key projects and promote active business partnering across the Reef Authority.You will have a lead role in the delivery and oversight of the Reef Authority’s management accounting responsibilities. You will lead and manage the preparation of modelled projections, analysis and commentary for the annual budget and forecasting processes ensuing alignment with Executive and Board expectations and approvals.You will provide leadership, direction and coaching to ensure staff have the skills and knowledge to effectively achieve business objectives and meet deliverables.DutiesProvide timely management and system accounting expertise through the delivery of value adding internal financial reporting, advice and insight to managers, and accuracy of the Reef Authority’s financial forecast.Coordinate the Reef Authority’s external Commonwealth budget cycle and funding returns, including all Central Budget Management System (CBMS) budgeting requirements.Coordinate, develop, review, and monitor the Reef Authority’s internal annual budget, ensuring alignment with the Strategic Planning process.Identify and provide advice and insight on accounting and finance issues and contribute to the development of the Reef Authority’s financial management strategy and internal controls to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation.Deliver and manage special projects as required and ensure adherence to relevant legislation, policies and procedures including the provision of advice on such matters.Engage with internal and external stakeholders on complex and/or sensitive issues and negotiate and influence outcomes to achieve Reef Authority objectives.Provide expertise in the management of the Reef Authority’s accounts receivable function including management of outstanding debts.Provide leadership and coaching to support the small management accounting team to achieve positive outcomes.As an APS employee you may be reassigned to a different set of duties at the same classification level at the discretion of the agency head (CEO), taking account of operational requirements in the agency.Eligibility requirements & qualificationsApplicants must:be an Australian citizen at time of applying for position,be able to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance, failure to do so will result in termination of employment.Essential requirementshave tertiary qualification in business, commerce or accounting, and a minimum of 10 years relevant post-graduate experience in the accounting environment.excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.extensive knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of the following statutes and standards, as they relate to the position:Australian Accounting Standards,Commonwealth Financial policies and procedures,Financial Delegations.Desirable qualifications or equivalent experience Previous experience utilising Technology One Finance System.Hold and maintain professional membership with CPA or CA or other relevant post graduate qualification.To ApplyPlease prepare a ‘pitch’, which does not exceed two pages, in relation to the advertised role, outlining:how your experience, abilities, knowledge and personal qualities would enable you to perform the duties and meet the technical and behavioural capabilities of the role.any specific examples or achievements that demonstrate your ability to perform the role.how you meet the eligibility requirements and qualifications for the position.Your application must include:your ‘pitch’ (as described above).proof of Australian citizenship.a current curriculum vitae (resume) that includes: an outline of your career history. qualifications and/or formal/informal training relevant to the position. contact details for at least two recent referees, one of whom should be your current supervisor.Applicants are advised to read further information provided on the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority Careers website.
