About the position This position is responsible for designing and developing hydraulic system architectures for Underground Hard Rock Vehicles as well as acting as the conduit between the hydraulic component teams and the machine product team. The hydraulic system engineer will be responsible for component (valve, cylinder, pump, motor, etc.) selection to meet system requirements, and validation through simulation and/or testing. The role requires an understanding of the machine application and the ability to effectively translate to system and component requirements. The hydraulic system engineer will leverage available global expertise to execute complex projects within demanding timelines and budget expectations. Communication across other system teams including cooling, drivetrain, installation and performance & controls is required to develop an optimized hydraulic system. In addition to new product development, this role will also support quality improvement projects for the existing machine fleet and any identified factory improvements. Opportunities to work on aftermarket growth and cost reduction projects are also expected. The system engineer will keep abreast of the latest technology advancements and will identify hydraulic solutions that provide a competitive advantage for Caterpillar machines. Basic Qualifications - Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in an accredited Engineering, or Materials Science curriculum and demonstrated progressive engineering experience - Prior experience in engineering related position Engineering experience in hydraulic, drivetrain, or cooling systems or components; or machine development Desired Qualifications - Mechanical, Aerospace, or Agricultural Engineering degree - Experience in hydraulic system or component design - Demonstrated ability to work well in collaborative environment and to communicate effectively in global cross functional teams - Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics - Understanding of major hydraulic sub-systems on mobile construction or mining equipment including braking, steering, implement, etc. - Experience collaborating with suppliers to specify and select components - Demonstrated project leadership capability - Experience directing the work of other engineering and/or procurement resources to achieve project goals - Experience with solid modelling software (Creo preferred) - Automation Studio, Dynasty, or other simulation software experience is desired - Experience in executing APQP tasks including developing requirements - Familiarity with compliance requirements in the mobile equipment industry - Mechanical aptitude (e.g. machinery, heavy equipment, manufacturing processes, product testing, etc.) Caterpillar is not currently hiring individuals for this position who now or in future require sponsorship for employment-based non-immigrant and immigrant visas.
