Home to around 1300 people, this community is the traditional homeland of the Wik, Wik Waya and Kugu people. The predominant traditional language spoken in Aurukun is Wik Mungkan; this is the first language of most Aurukun children. A region rich in traditional cultural practices. When you have some down time, get out and explore the local area, go fishing or camping or take the 4WD out for a run - ask the locals for some tips. Travel to Aurukun is by road or air with Skytrans operating flights on weekdays. Local amenities include a health clinic, library, fuel station, store and take away food shop.
