Engineering intern role to come and learn and develop existing skills within the Solar Turbines Environment, learning different areas of the business from workshop activities to business related activities. NATURE AND SCOPE Perform specific engineering related assignments including calculations, curve plotting and data reduction using established methods and under the explicit direction of an engineer in a higher classified position. Communicate results of assignments clearly to technical audience. KNOWLEDGE Basic knowledge of physics, mechanics and mathematics through the college entry level is required. PROBLEM COMPLEXITY The tasks assigned may include reduction and presentation of numerical test data, data fitting and curve plotting, basic stress/deflection calculations using manual and computer techniques, preparing selected sections of technical reports, and a variety of similar tasks as directed by the supervising engineer. WORK DIRECTION AND LATITUDE Normally, the tasks, methods and timetable will be determined by the supervising engineer. However, the incumbent is expected to carry on several simultaneous assignments and exercise mature judgement in setting day to day priorities to best support the overall program progress. Generally, work is reviewed for overall accuracy. PROJECT/PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITY Responsible for carrying out the assigned tasks to achieve the specific results and timetable as set down by the supervising engineer. Should also demonstrate a degree of creativity in recommending and incorporating new techniques and methods to improve accuracy, schedule and/or cost effectiveness. LIAISON Frequent, usually daily, contact with the supervising engineer and others within the department. Occasional contact with others in the context of gathering data and reporting results. BUSINESS CONTRIBUTIONS Completion of task assignments on time and with results clearly explained and presented in a professional manner in support of overall departmental objectives. QUALIFICATION Undergraduate in the following disciplines; Mechanical & Electrical: Strong customer focus and customer service skills Effective communication skills both; oral and written. Computer literate (MS Office experience) Ability to work & participate in a team environment.
