A consortium between Gamuda Australia and Laing O'Rourke has been awarded a $2.16 billion contract to start tunnelling on the Sydney Metro West project. With the recent commencement of tunnelling works, the Gamuda Australia Laing O'Rourke Consortium is looking for an experienced Communications & Networks Engineer/Technician to provide support to TBM and Mined Tunnel operations. Reporting to the Electrical Superintendent, this role is primarily responsible for procuring, installing, and maintaining the surface and underground communications and information networks. Specific activities will include: Review and understand all drawings, programs, plant specifications and sequences of work. Actively liaising with subcontractors, project engineers and suppliers. Ability to perform maintenance, testing and commissioning of associated Network infrastructure and Leaky feeder radio communications. Development of the project ventilation, environmental and dust monitoring SCADA system. Programming, implementation and maintenance of the underground and surface communications (radios and WAPs) system, personnel tracking software and associated infrastructure and project wide camera surveillance systems. Ensure that the Construction Communications and information network runs effectively and efficiently for the duration of the project. Undertake any ad-hoc initiatives and tasks, as directed by the Electrical Superintendent/ Construction Team. Your skills and experience Relevant Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Electrical Trade, or similar field. Proven experience working on Tier 1 projects, experience in underground environments with tunnelling plant and equipment is advantageous. Experience managing direct workforce and subcontractors in the delivery of work plans and scope. Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate as part of a supportive high-performing team. Construction includes the delivery of 9 kilometers of twin, metro rail tunnels between Westmead and Sydney Olympic Park; excavation of new station boxes at Westmead and Parramatta; earthworks, utilities and connecting tunnels for a Maintenance and Stabling Facility at Clyde; a precast concrete segment factory at Eastern Creek; and a services facility, crossover structure and excavation to support tunnelling operations at Rosehill.
