Graphic Designer / Creative Engineer — Melbourne, Melbourne Region

We're hiring a Graphic Designer/Creative Engineer. The kind of person who can take design off the founder's plate entirely and push the brand's look somewhere better than he could take it himself. You'll own the visual layer of a growing consumer brand end to end: main images, Amazon A content, the Shopify catalogue, ad and listing videos, the Brand Store, packaging. Everything a customer sees before they buy. You'll run image split tests to find what actually converts, render concepts for new products, and use AI to move faster on all of it. You'll have full access to Claude and whatever comes next. This isn't a production-artist role where you wait for briefs. It's a design role with taste and real ownership. If you already make excellent work with minimal direction, and you want more autonomy, smarter tools, and a founder who'll get out of your way once you've earned it, read on. You should apply if You make genuinely excellent, tasteful work with minimal direction. Your portfolio shows clean, modern, typographically literate design that would raise the bar on a brand, made without a creative director standing over you. This is the one thing we care about most. You're an expert retoucher. Clean cutouts, correct colour, and sharp product images are second nature, not a stretch. You can edit video end to end: cut, sound, thumbnail, export. Ad and listing content, not just stills. You're AI-fluent (the Creative Engineer aspect). You actively use AI image and video tools in your daily work and you're always hunting the next one. Comfortable with prompting for product and environment shots. You have a real eye for what sells online. You think about the customer looking at a listing, not just the composition. You know Photoshop, Illustrator and Figma inside out. Your written and spoken English is good enough to work async and take feedback cleanly. Don't apply if Your work is competent but generic, or only good when someone else art-directs it You need a detailed brief to produce something good. Minimal direction is how we work You treat AI as "something to dabble with" rather than core to how you work You only do stills and can't or won't edit video You don't much care whether the thing you made actually sells What you'll do Own the visual layer Design and refine main images across all marketplaces, to a standard that beats what sits next to us in search Build and update Amazon A content, including translated versions across our international marketplaces (US, CA, MX, UK, AU, JP) Rebuild and elevate the Shopify catalogue Expert retouching across the catalogue Cut the video Edit UGC into ad and listing videos: choose the moments, optimise sound, export, make thumbnails, and hand to our Operations Manager for upload Build workflows for AI-generated and AI-enhanced video Find what converts Run main image split tests in sync with marketing Test main images against competitors to find winners (our Build it Backwards process) Build and run polls, and tell us what the results actually say Design the brand Brand Store, product packaging, stickers, inserts Hold the brand's visual identity as it scales Help build the products Render product and packaging concepts for new products and put them to polling Teardown competitor products and listings to find where we can win Bring product ideas, not just execution Bonus skills (nice, not required) A real feel for International Typographic/Swiss Style and Dutch design. Our brand leans on it, so if this means something to you, tell us Motion graphics or After Effects 3D or product rendering Experience designing for Amazon and Shopify brands specifically Where you fit You report directly to the founder to start You'll work closely with the founder on the look and direction until we hire a Marketing/Growth Manager. Once they're in place, you report to them You'll hand finished images and video to our Operations Manager for upload Our Supply Manager will occasionally ask you for product design files Benefits US $1,800 to $2,000/month Annual performance review with discretionary bonus tied to KPI delivery 40 hours/week, flexible schedule. Most of the work isn't time-sensitive, so you manage your own hours with a couple of hours of AEST/AEDT overlap for feedback Work from anywhere in the world We provide the Adobe Creative Cloud/Figma access; you bring a capable machine and a colour-accurate monitor 3-month probation; long-term engagement thereafter Direct line to the founder and a real seat at the table as we grow Job security: we've been in e-commerce since 2017 and we're hiring because we're scaling, not because something broke
