Want to run your own tenders, without being thrown in the deep end alone? Some estimators spend years stuck pricing bits and pieces while someone else runs the real job. Others get handed the full responsibility too early, with no support, no systems, and no one answering the phone when things go sideways five minutes before tender close. This role sits nicely in the middle. You'll run your own tenders, manage clients directly, present at tender meetings, and take ownership of the process from start to finish, while still having an experienced Estimating Manager there when you need support, a second opinion, or someone to help navigate the trickier commercial conversations. It's the kind of role that suits an estimator ready to step up properly, not just talk about it over beers on a Friday afternoon. What you'll be pricing The project mix is one of the better-balanced portfolios in the Melbourne market. Within this builder, you'll work across: Larger-scale projects in the $50M range Multiple projects between $10M-$30M A steady pipeline of smaller works and repeat projects under $1M (albeit, have limited exposure to these smaller works projects - the focus of this role is on the larger scale projects) The sectors are varied too, across: Health Education Commercial Civic and community projects Which means you're not relying on one client, one sector, or one "mega project" that everyone pretends is definitely starting next month. Why this role stands out This builder has been around a long time and has built a strong reputation across Melbourne's commercial construction market. They're well-established, financially secure, and continue to win repeat negotiated work from long-standing clients, which means you'll spend less time dealing with panic stations and more time focusing on quality submissions and relationships. The office environment is modern, relaxed, and genuinely enjoyable to work in. No chest-beating culture. No ego-driven nonsense, no estimators hiding trade contacts like state secrets. Just good people, good systems, and a business that tends to keep staff for a long time. What they'll want from you You'll probably already be operating as an Estimator within a commercial builder and be comfortable running tenders independently. You must have experience within a head contractor, here in Melbourne. You don't need to know everything, but you do need to demonstrate that you can: Manage a tender process from start to finish Engage confidently with subcontractors and clients Present professionally at tender meetings Read the room commercially, not just measure quantities Work autonomously without needing constant direction Experience Estimating commercial building projects locally will be important.
