The General Counsel is currently the sole in-house lawyer at Nexon Asia Pacific Pty Ltd and reports directly to the CEO. This newly created role represents the first expansion hire into the legal function and is a genuine second-in-command (2IC) opportunity. The role has a strong commercial and sales-support focus, while also providing exposure across a broad range of in-house legal matters as the business and legal function continue to grow. Role Purpose To provide high-quality, commercially focused legal advice that supports Nexon's sales and operational objectives, manages risk, and contributes to the development of a scalable, modern in-house legal function. Key Responsibilities Provide timely, pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice to Sales and Operations on agreements with customers, vendors and partners. Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including customer contracts, vendor agreements and partnership arrangements. Support sales enablement by balancing legal risk with commercial outcomes to facilitate efficient deal closure. Develop, maintain and continuously improve standard terms and conditions, master services agreements and related contract documentation. Review product descriptions, marketing and promotional materials to minimise legal risk and mitigate potential liability. Assist the General Counsel across a broad range of legal matters, including: intellectual property privacy and data protection disputes and claims compliance and risk management governance and company secretarial matters leasing and property matters employment law and workplace relations, including employment contracts, policies and workplace issues Identify and escalate material legal and commercial risks and contribute to appropriate risk management strategies. Contribute to legal training and guidance for non-legal stakeholders across the business. Support the effective operation and continuous improvement of legal systems, processes and matter management. Experience & Capabilities Australian-qualified solicitor with a current practising certificate. Approximately 3-7 years' post-admission experience in commercial law (title and scope aligned to experience). Strong experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, ideally in a technology or services environment. Demonstrated ability to provide commercially pragmatic advice in a fast-paced, sales-driven environment. Exposure to, or a strong interest in, employment law and workplace relations. Working knowledge of technology, ICT or digital services contracting and related IP issues. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with non-legal stakeholders. Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams. Preferred experience with in-house legal matter management systems (e.g. Xakia or similar). Competency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams and SharePoint.
