Applications are invited from dynamic and enthusiastic Strings Tutors to join Nazareth College in a casual position, commencing Term 1, 2026. The Strings Tutor will deliver high quality instrumental tuition to junior and senior students across the College, foster ensemble performance, and contribute to the musical life of the school. The successful candidate will be an organised, enthusiastic musician who loves teaching, supports student development, and is available to teach 1 day day during the school week. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Individual and small group tuition: Deliver weekly 1:1 and to one and small group lessons for violin, viola, cello and/or double bass across junior and senior year levels. Ensemble duties: Rehearse, coach and conduct school string ensembles, chamber groups and accompanying duties as required for liturgies, concerts and community events. Curriculum alignment: Plan lessons that align with the Performing Arts curriculum and learning objectives ; prepare lesson plans, practice tasks and short term goals for each student. Assessment and reporting: Maintain accurate attendance and progress records; contribute to written reports and parent/teacher interviews as required. Student development: Provide constructive feedback, set achievable practice targets, and support students’ musical pathways (exams, auditions, ensembles). Resource management: Maintain and organise teaching resources, music scores and ensemble library; liaise with the Performing Arts coordinator about instrument hire, repairs and equipment needs. Professional collaboration: Attend regular Performing Arts meetings, participate in professional learning, and work collaboratively with classroom and specialist staff. Child safety and pastoral care: Model professional behaviour, maintain a safe learning environment, and follow school child safety policies. SELECTION CRITERIA (ESSENTIAL) Demonstrated teaching ability: Experience teaching strings to school aged students (junior and senior levels) with evidence of student progress. Ensemble experience: Proven ability to lead, rehearse and coach ensembles; comfortable conducting small groups. Organisation: Strong planning and time management skills; ability to manage lesson schedules, resources and student records. Passion for music and teaching: Enthusiastic, student centered approach with a commitment to fostering musical growth and confidence. Availability: Able to teach 1 day per week and attend scheduled rehearsals and events. Hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) or equivalent and willingness to undergo school required background checks. Communication: Clear interpersonal skills for working with students, parents and staff. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES Formal qualifications: Diploma, Bachelor or higher in Music, Music Education, or equivalent performance qualifications. VCE/Exam experience: Familiarity with AMEB, VCE or other examination and audition processes. Accompaniment skills: Ability to accompany students on piano or collaborate effectively with accompanists. First aid: Current First Aid and CPR certification. Driver’s licence: For off site performances or community engagements (if required).
