This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Sydney CBD. There are approximately 380 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 500 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Netherlands, Denmark, Mexico and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally. About the role DroneShield is on the lookout for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our innovative product development team in Sydney. This role will see you contribute directly to the development of current and future generation products through effective requirements elicitation, analysis, and management through collaboration with the engineering development teams. Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations Lead coordination across engineering disciplines to define and deliver quality products, features and capabilities for our existing and next generation product lines. Perform complex analysis and trade studies to guide system concept selection, ensuring system architecture and design align with business objectives. Partner with Product and Project Management to support project deliverables and timelines by keeping development teams informed of key milestones and performance metrics. Manage the documentation for system design, requirements and test strategies, specifically focusing on integration testing to ensure that subsystems work together to meet the overall system needs. Collaborate with senior stakeholders to communicate technical concepts and risks, resolve problems, ensure alignment and influence decision-making on technical issues. Ensure continual improvement of the products and seamless integration of systems elements and interfaces, driving alignment to achieve desired system outcomes. Identify, assess and manage risks at a technical, product and project level. Support and drive the development and introduction of systems engineering processes that promote best practices and provide a framework for product development, seeking to increase efficiency and improve project outcomes. Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers, supporting technical professional development. Qualifications, Experience and Skills BEng/BSc or Masters degree in relevant engineering discipline (Systems Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science), or similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience. 5 years of experience performing systems engineering responsibilities within complex product development environments. Solid understanding of the application of systems engineering frameworks, principles and tools across the entire product development lifecycle. Experience with requirements management for complex software and hardware products or features. Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment on work packages and deliverables to achieve project outcomes Excel in a high empowerment, fast paced, agile environment, surrounded by likeminded, high achieving people. Nice to have Experience developing and testing hardware and software systems relating to Electronic Warfare, Command and Control, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, RF sensing, Sensor Fusion and distributed systems is desirable. Familiarity with benchmarking pipelines and interpreting results and metrics An understanding of cybersecurity practices in systems engineering to ensure the integrity and security of systems is desirable. You are comfortable working within the Atlassian ecosystem and have experience or exposure to managing project deliverables using Jira or other project management tools.
