The Role Our client is seeking a mission-driven Product and Engineering Lead to oversee the development of their first field-ready prototype. This role combines technical leadership with product, guiding systems integration across sensing, electronics, and embedded platforms. You’ll lead a cross-functional team, manage delivery milestones, and act as the key interface between the CEO, internal and external development. Lead system-level design and integration of a compact sensing device, coordinating across hardware, optics, electronics, software, and embedded systems. Guide and mentor the engineering team , providing hands-on technical leadership and balancing performance, manufacturability, and field robustness. Translate customer and partner needs into clear product specifications and development milestones, acting as the primary technical liaison. Deliver functional prototypes , overseeing component selection, system integration, testing, and validation for field deployment. Ensure field readiness , including packaging, calibration, diagnostics, and usability in real-world environments. Manage project execution , including planning, budgeting, risk mitigation, and maintaining visibility on progress and priorities. About You 10 years in systems engineering for advanced hardware products, with a track record of delivering field-ready prototypes. Australian citizenship required Strong customer and partner engagement , translating technical requirements into actionable milestones. Experience managing complex projects , including budgets, timelines, and risk across multidisciplinary teams. Background in applied sensing technologies , ideally in navigation, resource discovery, or medical imaging. Hands-on expertise in system builds involving optics, embedded systems, and electronics, with strong interdisciplinary communication. Desirable experience includes photonics instrumentation, CMOS/ASIC integration, hardware programming, and OEM collaboration.
