Role Overview This position supports Council's operational objectives by performing a range of manual labour tasks related to concrete and pavement construction. Working as part of a multi-skilled team, this role involves placing, finishing and constructing concrete and pavement structures and surfaces. The position is primarily in a construction crew; however, depending on the program being delivered and workloads the position may be moved to other crews within the Construction teams Essential Knowledge & Skills: Experience using hand tools and small equipment related to concrete and pavement construction works. Demonstrated physical agility and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting and bending. Demonstrated ability to maintain harmony within a team and foster good working relationships with all council employees and members of the public. Demonstrated ability to work under general supervision. Demonstrated ability to undertake specialised tasks including operation of plant, vehicles, equipment and tools in a competent and proficient manner. Demonstrated ability to plan and organise complex road, concrete and pavement construction work under limited supervision Queensland ‘MR’ class driver’s licence or above that is current and maintained. Queensland General Construction Induction White Card or equivalent Essential Requirements: Carry out concrete and pavement construction activities including subgrade and base preparation, formwork and reinforcement, placement and finishing of concrete, and laying and compacting pavement and asphalt related materials. Operate and maintain tools, plant and equipment relevant to concrete and pavement construction, including Trimble/total station equipment (or demonstrate willingness to learn if not already competent). Undertake general labouring duties such as excavation, levelling, lifting and material handling to support crew operations Complete all work tasks safely, efficiently and to required quality standards in line with Council’s work program. Identify and suggest improvements to work methods and practices in support of Council’s continuous improvement commitment.
