Project Engineer – Civil & Earthworks A respected contractor in the civil infrastructure space is seeking a versatile Project Engineer to support both field operations and commercial functions. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys variety, thrives under pressure, and brings a proactive mindset to every stage of project delivery. Role Overview As a Project Engineer, you’ll be the connective tissue between site teams and office-based operations. You’ll help ensure projects run smoothly, documentation is accurate, and commercial outcomes are maximized. Expect a mix of site visits, technical coordination, and support across estimating and contract administration. Key Responsibilities Liaise with project teams to manage documentation, variations, and claims Track daily activities and costs through structured reporting tools Coordinate quality assurance submissions and compliance records Attend active sites to support planning and execution alongside field supervisors Assist in onboarding processes for new projects, ensuring readiness and alignment Estimating & Tender Support Review tender packages and identify key deliverables and risks Prepare take-offs and bills of quantities using first-principles estimating Research upcoming opportunities and contribute to bid strategy Support tender submissions and post-bid negotiations Conduct site assessments to inform pricing and feasibility What You’ll Need A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field Strong digital literacy and familiarity with construction software Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Solid understanding of contract frameworks and subcontractor engagement A collaborative attitude and willingness to work across departments Reliable transport for occasional site travel For a confidential discussion, contact George at Gough Recruitment.
