Description Amazon has an opportunity for a System Development Engineer a specialist Intelligent Cloud Hosting (ICON) team. This team host Amazon's websites including Amazon's global marketplaces and partner portals and consumer experiences such as Kindle, Alexa or Amazon Video. This team deliver the HTML that delights our customers and ensures that all underlying transactions are processed error-free. This includes payments, tax, contracts, returns, inventory, and notifications; and brand new experiences that have never been done before. In short, we perform cloud infrastructure management at the biggest scale in the known universe. The ICON team is a diverse international team made up of engineers, developers, administrators and managers from around the globe. They are obsessed with operational quality, security, reducing cost, increasing availability and keeping the largest eCommerce infrastructure purring. They have offices in Sydney, Seattle, New York, Dublin, Bangalore and Hyderabad. We're looking for a Systems Development Engineer who is inventive, who understands operational excellence, and can work to scale. Key job responsibilities As a System Development Engineer, you will/may: - Troubleshoot, debug, evaluate and resolve computer-identified alarms (Oncall), make feature enhancements, bug fixes, systems management, perform software deployments and migrations and host management during office hours. - Develop tools and automations to achieve human free operations; modifying software in a way that leverages the overall system architecture. - Create and updating a strategic SRE tool-kit built on AWS technology which is used across Amazon to deploy, monitor and operate the hundreds of thousands of services that power our highly distributed architecture. These tools include orchestration, predictive analytics, monitoring, problem diagnosis and automated repair. - Analyse SRE data and deploy configurations that intelligently manage how traffic flows through our highly distributed architecture to our delighted customers. - Develop an understanding of the maintenance characteristics, runtime properties, and dependencies of your team's infrastructure, including hardware platform, operating system, and build dependencies. About the team The ICON team own connecting Amazon worldwide websites and other consumer experiences such as Kindle, Amazon Video, and Alexa to the internet. They ensure the highest level of availability, security and privacy of the web services that power the experience we deliver to our customers worldwide. This team centralize and optimize the infrastructure management from individual service teams and operate 120 Tier-1 services. ICON own the routing layer built on top of AWS technology that connects traffic at low latency and protects the web services against malicious robot and DDoS attacks. Basic Qualifications - Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting infrastructure - Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust - Experience with Linux/Unix - Experience tools for automation (building, testing, releasing or monitoring) Preferred Qualifications - Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes - Experience with automating and simplifying team development, test, and operations processes Acknowledgement of country: In the spirit of reconciliation Amazon acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community.
