Casual Ecologist — Coffs Harbour Region, New South Wales

We’re seeking a casual graduate or early-career Ecologist to join our Coffs Harbour office to support our fieldwork program. About GeoLINK: GeoLINK is a multi-disciplinary environmental, planning and design consultancy that has been established in northern NSW for over 30 years. Our principal services are planning, environmental assessment, ecology, civil and environmental engineering and bushfire assessment. We offer these services from our regional offices in Lennox Head, Coffs Harbour and Armidale. About the role: This role would suit a recent graduate, or high achieving final-year student, in ecology, zoology, environmental science, natural resource management, or a related discipline, with up to 3 years’ experience. You will assist in delivering ecology surveys and assessments, including fieldwork that is conducted during the day, at night, early morning/pre-dawn, and at times on weekends. You will be working alongside experienced ecologists and senior ecologists and receive on-the-ground training to help you develop your field skills and ecological understanding across a diverse and vibrant bioregion on the NSW Mid North Coast. This is a casual contract position, with variable hours, based at our Coffs Harbour office. Hours would vary depending on project and fieldwork needs as outlined previously. Essential criteria, skills and experience: Tertiary qualification (minimum undergraduate bachelor, or in final year of study) in Ecology / Science / Environmental Science / Applied Science / Natural Resource Management / Zoology or equivalent in related discipline, with high levels of academic achievement. A Class C Driver’s Licence, ability to drive manual vehicles, and confidence driving in regional/rural settings. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including interpersonal. Able to work outside of regular hours of operation, including flexibility and availability for day, night, early morning/pre-dawn, and weekend fieldwork - sometimes at short notice. Be available to travel away from home for periods of time, typically in NSW mid north coast, NSW northern tablelands and northern NSW, if required. Willingness to work in remote locations and on active construction sites. Have self-motivation and initiative with the ability to manage responsibilities and perform tasks with guidance and supervision, as well as autonomy. Eagerness to learn and undertake relevant training (which we provide). A white card (or general construction induction card), or willingness to obtain. First aid certificate, or willingness to obtain. Competence working with Microsoft Office software. Share GeoLINK's values and ethos. Desirable skills and experience: Local knowledge of NSW Mid North Coast flora and fauna Previous experience with ecological surveys and/or data collection, including high level fauna and botanical skills i.e. identification, vegetation community mapping, biometrics, etc. Well-developed biodiversity and environmental assessment report writing skills.
