Data Engineer & Platform Lead Position — Melbourne, Melbourne Region

Hudson is looking out for a Data Engineer & Platform Lead for a Government Client.Location: Melbourne, Victoria (Hybrid work arrangements available) Top 5 Must-Have Criteria: Expertise in Microsoft Fabric Ecosystem Hands-on experience managing and developing within Microsoft Fabric, including components like Dataflows, Pipelines, and Lakehouses. Strong Data Engineering Skills Proficiency in SQL, DAX, Power Query, and preferably Python, with demonstrated capability in building and maintaining complex data pipelines. Experience with Lakehouse Architecture Deep understanding of the Bronze (raw), Silver (cleansed), and Gold (curated) data layers, and experience managing multi-layered data models. Cloud and Microsoft Data Tools Familiarity with Microsoft Power BI, Azure Data Factory, and Synapse Analytics (integration, transformation, reporting). Data Governance and Security Knowledge Understanding of governance, security, and compliance requirements, particularly in a public sector or regulated environment. Key Selection Criteria Technical Expertise Demonstrated experience in managing and developing solutions within the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem. Strong proficiency in data engineering tools and languages such as SQL, DAX, Power Query, and Python. Experience with data lakehouse architecture and managing multi-layered data models (Bronze, Silver, Gold). Familiarity with Microsoft Power BI, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, and related technologies. Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance in a government or regulated environment. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills Proven ability to analyse complex data problems and design effective, scalable solutions. Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and quality. Communication and Collaboration Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and manage competing priorities. Adaptability and Learning Enthusiastic about learning new technologies and applying them to solve real-world problems. Ability to adapt to changing business needs and technology landscapes. Qualifications and Experience Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field. Minimum 3–5 years of experience in data engineering or analytics roles, preferably within the public sector or large enterprise environments.
