About the Role: I'm on the lookout for a Linux Engineer to play a key role in modernising and securing end-of-life Linux-based computers. These systems power vital laboratory measurement, industrial control, and data acquisition functions. Your role will involve upgrading, isolating, or decommissioning these systems to reduce cybersecurity and operational risks. What You'll Do: Assess legacy Linux systems for remediation or decommissioning. Build and configure replacement Linux Operating Systems for scientific instrumentation. Collaborate with scientists to understand requirements and develop practical solutions. Capture and document software and hardware upgrade requirements. Maintain detailed records in the asset management system. Document all remediation activities and publish clear build notes. Ensure all work complies with cybersecurity policies, based on the ASD Essential Eight framework. Follow OHS guidelines when working in labs and technical areas. What You'll Bring: Essential Skills & Experience: Hands-on experience supporting Linux-based Operating Systems. Proven problem-solving skills to tackle complex IT issues. Understanding of best security practices in IT environments. Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset. Eligibility to obtain NV1 Clearance. Desirable Skills & Experience: IT support experience, especially with unique hardware peripherals. Familiarity with hardware rollout projects. Scripting or programming knowledge in PowerShell, Python, Java, or C++. Ability to support complex computer networks. What's in it for You?
