Ruah Legal Services is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ruah, specialising in the provision of end-to-end legal representation with integrated psycho-social support. Ruah Legal Services trades as the Mental Health Law Centre (MHLC) for the provision of legal services to clients experiencing severe mental illness. Key practice areas include the Mental Health Act, Criminal Law, Care and Protection, and Guardianship and Administration Act matters. Ruah Legal Services also provides legal assistances to victim-survivors of sexual assault through the SALSWA project, and to women experiencing family and domestic violence through Ruah Community Services programs. About the Role The Legal Administration Officer provides administrative support to the legal work and practice management of RLS. Core responsibilities include processing incoming and outgoing confidential legal correspondence and court documents, via post, email, fax and webform submission. The Legal Administration Officer also supports the work of the Telephone Advice Line, taking overflow calls on the intake line when volunteers are unavailable to answer, and managing warm referrals from legal and non-legal organisations. The role requires an empathetic non-judgmental attitude to people living with disadvantage and facing mental health challenges. This is a fixed-term part time role, working 22.5 hours per week, for a 12 month period commencing in July 2025. What we’re looking for It is expected that the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following: • Experience working in a legal practice or Certificate IV in Legal Services or equivalent qualification. • Experience and comfortability in processing confidential legal documents. • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of accurate data entry and calendar management in legal service provision. • Strong attention to detail and well-developed organisational skills. • Experience working with practice management software. • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite. • Excellent customer services skills including interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. • An empathetic non-judgmental attitude to people living with disadvantage and facing mental health challenges. • Ability to exercise sound judgement, confidentiality, sensitivity in the performance of duties. • Ability to work with minimal supervision and use initiative. • Willingness to be flexible and undertake a range of administrative duties. • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of diversity and social inclusion- including gender, sexuality, disability, cultural, age, and linguistic diversity and Aboriginal culture, Experience using ActionStep is desirable but not essential.
