Senior Engineer - Defence — Perth CBD, Perth

The Senior / Principal Professional (Defence) role contributes to the winning, management and delivery of moderate to large scale projects, management of the Defence Civil Infrastructure Team and growing the broader Defence business. The successful individual shall be responsible for the management of project resources, budgets and timelines and enhancing client and working relationships through project work. This role will also include supporting the preparation of proposals and presentations to clients to win work alongside the Defence Lead. Responsibilities Technical / Professional Expertise • Strong technical capability in general civil engineering, comprising competency to undertake: ➢ Stormwater Drainage Systems ➢ Roads and Pavements ➢ Earthworks and Site Grading ➢ Water and Sewer Infrastructure ➢ Utility Services Coordination ➢ Civil Site Layout Planning and Geometry • Prepare and review design documentation including drawings, reports and technical specifications. • Ensuring civil design work complies with relevant standards. • Support the development and coordination of multidisciplinary design packages with BIM or federated model environments. • Provide engineering input throughout the project lifecycle (planning, feasibility, concept, detailed design etc). • Coordinate with various consultants and clients to provide integrated solutions. • Support internal QA process and mentor junior staff in civil engineering. • Contribute to fee proposals, scope development, and estimation for civil design packages. • Understanding of 12D and Civil 3D knowledge is beneficial for guiding designers and drafters. • Proficient in reviewing client briefs and understanding actual client need (and then delivery on the requirements). • Perform engineering (calcs / modelling etc) and design functions as applicable to a project. This shall include minor drafting functions if appropriate at least to a concept level. • Ability to identify, develop options, undertake value management exercises; and present these toClients. Financial / Project Management • Take responsibility for delivery of individual projects or components of projects to a client successfully. This involves technical quality, budget and programme. • Manage projects effectively including communication of project goals and work expectations. • Monitor time and cost information & ensure project profitability. • Complete project reviews. • Monitor quality of work (deliverables) and quality of service. • Monitor client satisfaction. Business Development and Client Management • Develop and foster positive relationships with internal and external clients, taking responsibility for key relationship management for a selection of existing and potential clients. • Determine clients’ needs and expectations and document how they will be achieved e.g., in proposals, thought pieces, project plans, etc. • Develop pursuit plans for key opportunities. • Complete and manage the preparation of bids, proposals and marketing material. • Identify opportunities for extending existing contracts, changes of scope and cross selling.Internal Business • Ability to network quickly and connect throughout the global BG&E business to strengthen capability and value for clients. • Ability to provide input to growing the Defence Business line. KPI’s • Completion of projects exceeding client expectations (to be determined on Client feedback on projects delivered) • Excellent report writing skills (both technical and non-technical). • Completion of projects on time, within budget and to a high standard • Coaching and mentoring of junior staff, successfully assigning tasks and projects to meet staff personal development and business requirements. • Developing existing client relationships as required. • Ability to communicate effectively (be responsive, professional and clear). Software / Modelling As a Senior / Principal Civil Engineer you will be expected to have experience using a variety of engineering software. These are not all mandatory to be successful in the role however it is assumed that an Senior / Principal candidate would have experience with or working knowledge of some of the following software packages at a minimum: • Civil 3D / 12D (not mandatory, though working knowledge of is looked upon favourably) • AutoTURN • AutoCAD • Navisworks • WaterGEMS / SewerGEMS (or equivalent Bentley Software) • EPANET • SIDRA • StormCAD / Civilstorm • DRAINS / PC SUMP • MUSIC • HEC-RAS and Other Relevant Flood Modelling Packages (RORB / TUFLOW) • HY-8 • CulvertMaster • QGIS / MapInfo / ArcGIS • Advanced Excel (formulas etc) You will not be expected to utilise these skills regularly as the position requires an agile individual able to seamlessly undertake a variety of complex civil engineering works and tasks. General Time Allocation Guide We would expect your effort to be managed across the following three-time categories in generally: • 80%-85% Client Service (Projects) • Client Development and Bidding (10%-15%) • Our People, Culture and Training (5%-10% Skills, Qualifications and Experience To be successful in the Senior / Principal Engineer role the candidate shall have: • A Bachelor of Civil Engineering (or equivalent) recognised by Engineer’s Australia. • Experience in Civil related design and delivery of land development and or building type projects, including multi-disciplinary servicing of developments. • Chartered Engineering Professional (preferred) and or RPEQ Certification. • 6 Civil Engineering experience delivering civil infrastructure projects.
