Job Description The Opportunity As a Senior Geotechnical Site Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and inspecting the geotechnical and tunnelling aspects of the desalination project in Port Lincoln, South Australia, to ensure quality and compliance with technical and regulatory standards. This position requires extensive site based experience in geotechnical engineering and TBM tunnel engineering, particularly in construction and infrastructure projects in the marine environment. You will work closely with project managers, lead engineers, and site teams to deliver quality and safe outcomes. Key responsibilities: Perform site inspections and supervision for geotechnical elements such as pile foundations and marine pipeline works Perform site inspections and supervision for TBM tunneling operations in the marine environment. Assess ground conditions to ensure compliance with design specifications and project requirements. Monitor and evaluate site activities, ensuring construction follows design plans and identifying any potential issues with ground stability or geotechnical hazards. Document findings from site inspections, including photographs, sketches, and reports, to ensure compliance with safety standards and project specifications. Assist in the implementation of corrective actions based on site inspection findings to mitigate geotechnical risks. Perform the write-ups of memorandums, technical notes, documents, and forms related to site inspection activities. Discuss findings and site conditions with the design team and construction team to ensure alignment and understanding of geotechnical, marine and tunneling requirements. Prepare non-conformance reports and assist in developing corrective measures for issues observed on-site. Required Skills and Competencies Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 8 to 10 years work experience. Strong experience in geotechnical and TBM tunnel site inspection, particularly within the infrastructure or construction sector. Extensive expertise in geotechnical engineering, including soil mechanics, construction methodologies, piling works, and tunnel boring machine (TBM) tunnelling operations. Familiarity with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
