Technical Officer (Architecture, Industrial Design and Planning) — Southport, Gold Coast

Job Description The Griffith School of Engineering and Built Environment (EBE) offers a broad range of engineering programs and has an active research culture which has helped foster strong links with high schools and community groups plus key industries on a local, national and global level. As Technical Officer, you’ll be responsible for providing technical support to School staff and students, primarily focused on the disciplines of Architecture, Industrial Design and Planning at the Gold Coast campus, under the guidance of the Senior Technical Officer. Here’s how you’ll make it matter: Provide technical support to the assigned work area including: set up; service and dismantling of in class laboratory/studio activities; instrumentation; and materials, primarily for undergraduate studio and laboratory classes. Pre-run experiments when required to ensure that effective operation and results are achieved. Demonstrate where necessary, the relevant techniques in operating equipment, product/prototype manufacture, finishing material selection, and instrumentation, incorporating the appropriate safety procedures. Demonstrated ability to use computer aided design software, CAD or CAM, and a sound ability in the use of e-mail and Microsoft Office Suite. Assist students and staff with the use and utilisation of specific equipment such as laser cutters, foam cutters, 3D printers and plotter printers. You will also have: Tertiary qualifications in Architecture, Planning, Industrial Design or an equivalent combination of relevant trade experience, training and skills with a minimum of 2 years experience in a position demonstrating similar skills. Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain specialized equipment such as laser cutters, 3D printers, foam cutters, and plotter printers. Proficient in computer-aided design (CAD) software and the Microsoft Office Suite, to support experimental setups and documentation. Solid understanding of Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) is a plus. Experienced with troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to laboratory equipment and software. Ability to pre-run experiments to ensure effective operation and results, and to assist students and staff in overcoming technical challenges during practical sessions. Effective verbal and written communication abilities to provide clear instructions, demonstrate equipment usage, and collaborate with students, staff, and external suppliers. Capable of conveying technical information in an understandable manner and maintaining accurate records. Proven experience in coordinating the setup, maintenance, and dismantling of laboratory apparatus and studio spaces. Skilled in managing multiple tasks simultaneously, ensuring timely procurement of materials, and maintaining detailed documentation for equipment and software licenses. What we can offer This is a continuing, full time position primarily based at the Griffith University Gold Coast. As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations. Griffith University’s sites are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples. Salary Range The full time equivalent base salary will be HEW Level 5 range $79,705 - $89,416 per annum 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $93,255 - $104,617 per annum.
