With a refreshed organisational strategy and strong leadership and Board, this newly created Principal Legal Counsel position is a rare senior opportunity for an experienced lawyer who enjoys a role that blends leadership, varied legal work and organisational influence. About the role: Reporting to the General Manager of Legal and Governance, this is a senior leadership position of a well resourced, high-performing in-house legal team. Leading the day to day of the legal services function, you will provide legal guidance and strategic input across a broad range of matters, while managing, mentoring and coaching team members to build capability. Your role will be varied and will see you: Leading a team of 4 in-house Legal professionals; Provide advice and triaging a range of commercial matters including contracts, leasing, IP, employment, IP/IT and privacy; Lead the development and oversight of legal procedures and precedents to increase efficiency; Actively contribute to business strategy across the Legal & Governance portfolio; Oversee litigation and dispute resolution matters; Manage external legal providers and legal spend; Manage legal input into key projects and corporate initiatives; Deliver legal training and updates to the wider organisation; and Inspire and lead a collaborative, values-driven legal team. Skills/Experience: You will bring: 10 years' legal experience gained in private practice and ideally also in-house, including demonstrated experience across commercial law; A current, unrestricted QLD practising certificate; Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring and coaching legal teams and managing complex legal workflows; The ability to translate complex legal issues into practical, commercial advice; Highly developed stakeholder engagement and influencing skills; Experience supporting governance functions and working within regulated environments (NFP or similar experience will be beneficial); and A leadership style that is supportive, collegiate and focused on capability building.
