About the role Strategic Market Reform (SMR) sits within AEMO’s Policy and Corporate Affairs team and contributes to the development of reform in Australia’s energy market, working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to inform policy and regulatory processes and design and implementation of transformational change with the aim of delivering value to industry and consumers. You will contribute to the creation and development of multiple interrelated energy markets in Australia, with a particular focus on the market and technical integration of CER/DER. You will lead and contribute to the identification and creation of strategic opportunities and development of AEMO proposals in relation to energy market policy. What you will be doing Identify opportunities to influence market designs, policy development and AEMO internal positions. Develop short-, medium- and long-term strategic plans for how DER/CER integration and markets may develop. Assess the implications of operationalising proposed policies and conversely, how operational requirements translate into policy objectives, and consideration of outcomes for consumers. Formal and informal analysis of current arrangements and options for improvement in DER/CER through reform, considering factors that could influence energy market development. Assessment, development and submission of rule change requests and responses to formal consultation papers. Establish and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across market bodies, jurisdictions and industry and represent AEMO in external working groups. Develop proposals for change through internal and external consultation. Coaching and mentoring of more junior team members. What you will bring to the role Qualifications in a relevant discipline such as Economics, Finance, Science or Engineering. Experience in the Energy industry in a commercial organisation, market body or governmental department in regulatory design, operations or analysis. Sound appreciation of the technical and/or economic issues affecting the physical operation of the electricity and gas systems, along with a practical working knowledge of the political, regulatory and economic frameworks in which AEMO and the energy markets are operating. Understanding and/or experience of Consumer/Distributed Energy Resources preferred. Demonstrated experience in producing high quality documents and excellent presentation skills. Strong stakeholder engagement capabilities to build and maintain constructive working relationships. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in an engaging manner.
