Retail Manager/Barista — Manoora, Cairns

Soul Origin Cairns Central is a vibrant and busy quick-service café located within Cairns Central Shopping Centre, offering a wide range of fresh salads, sandwiches, wraps, and premium coffee. As part of the nationally recognised Soul Origin franchise, our store is committed to delivering healthy, high-quality food and excellent customer service in a fast-paced retail environment. As we continue to grow, we are looking for experienced professionals to join our dynamic team across multiple key roles. Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 Retail Manager Key Duties: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Soul Origin Cairns Central store, ensuring smooth and efficient service during peak and off-peak periods. Manage and support a small team of baristas, kitchen hands, and front-of-house staff, ensuring they are well-trained, motivated, and working cohesively. Coordinate daily food preparation and front display setup to ensure consistent product quality and presentation standards. Maintain appropriate stock levels of fresh ingredients, packaging, and other supplies by monitoring usage trends and placing timely orders with approved suppliers. Ensure strict compliance with food safety regulations, cleanliness standards, and internal operational procedures. Work closely with the franchise support office to implement marketing campaigns, limited-time offers, and product launches at the store level. Handle customer enquiries and resolve service issues promptly to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and repeat patronage. Prepare and manage weekly staff rosters, ensuring adequate coverage during trading hours and managing payroll hours effectively. Monitor store performance through sales reports and customer feedback, and identify opportunities to increase sales, improve efficiency, and reduce wastage. Requirements: Hold at least an AQF Diploma OR have at least three (3) years of relevant full-time (38 hours per week) work experience. Possess strong leadership skills with proven ability to manage, motivate, and develop a team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with staff and customers. Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making capabilities in a fast-paced environment. Sound knowledge of Work Health and Safety (WHS) and food safety regulations, ensuring compliance at all times. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, to meet business needs. Barista Key Duties: Prepare and serve a variety of fresh coffee beverages, including espresso and filter coffee, consistently following Soul Origin’s recipes and quality standards. Operate and maintain commercial coffee equipment such as espresso machines, grinders, and batch brewers to deliver high-quality drinks. Ensure the coffee station is clean, well-organised, and visually appealing throughout trading hours. Set up the coffee station before store opening and efficiently pack down equipment and supplies at closing time. Monitor coffee grind and extraction quality, making adjustments as needed to maintain optimal flavour and consistency. Provide friendly and professional customer service, addressing any coffee-related enquiries or issues promptly. Collaborate closely with front-of-house and kitchen staff to ensure seamless service delivery. Adhere strictly to all food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety standards at all times. Requirements: Have at least an AQF Certificate II; or Have at least one (1) year of relevant full-time (38 hours per week) work experience. Previous experience as a barista in a busy café or quick-service environment is preferred. Strong knowledge of espresso coffee preparation and operation of commercial coffee machines. Ability to consistently prepare high-quality coffee beverages to Soul Origin’s standards. Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and approachable manner. Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team. Attention to detail, especially regarding cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation of the coffee station. Ability to work flexible hours including early mornings, weekends, and public holidays. Willingness to learn and adapt to new recipes, equipment, and store procedures. Knowledge of food safety and workplace health and safety regulations is an advantage.
