Casual Library Officer — Broadmeadows, Hume Area

Job Description Casual $47.90 per hour plus Superannuation Join the City Lifestyle team You will contribute to the provision of high-quality public library services that meet the educational, recreational and information needs of the diverse Hume community by providing a high level of customer service. You will support the facilitation of learning for the Hume community and assist in the maintenance of the library collections. You will work within established library policies and procedures. There are no set hours or roster for this role, and casual staff are offered shifts as required at any and all library locations across the Hume municipality. Casual staff are also expected to be available for work across any and all library open hours each week. The static branches are at Broadmeadows, Craigieburn, Gladstone Park, Sunbury and Tullamarine, and we sometimes provide services at other community sites. What you’ll be doing: Undertake direct customer service duties at any Hume Libraries branch as required, including evening and weekend shifts. Assist in circulation and shelving, promptly and efficiently. Assist with and troubleshoot library and customer technology as appropriate. Promote library services and activities to the public and take bookings. Register new library members and issue replacement library cards. Collect payment for lost or damaged materials and for printing and photocopying. Answer phone calls promptly and respond accordingly. Assist librarians with collection maintenance as directed. The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role: Experience in a Public Library or similar environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds. Excellent Customer Service skills with an ability to deal with challenging customers and present a positive Council image. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use a variety of computer hardware and software. Ability to work in a busy library environment and successfully work as a team member. Successful completion of VCE. Current driver’s license and vehicle. Be able to maintain availability across any and all library locations and open hours. Be able to remain eligible for work by meeting training, procedural and administrative requirements. Why Hume City Council?
