About the role The Legal Counsel – Disputes and Compliance Specialist role is newly created and pivotal to the organisation. Reporting to an impressive and friendly Group Manager Legal, you will be responsible for autonomously managing and driving the resolution of a range of disputes including complex commercial disputes, insurance claims and debt recovery. In addition, you will be responsible for managing compliance, primarily in relations to privacy and other internal governance matters. Whilst the focus of the role is on disputes and compliance, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to be exposed to broader commercial legal work as part of a lean legal team. The key responsibilities of the role will include: Acting as the primary legal manager for managing and resolving all commercial disputes including complex, high profile disputes, debt recovery, insurance claims and personal injury matters Attending Court and briefing external counsel where required Acting as the company’s Privacy Officer Acting as the key compliance legal manager for internal governance, competition and consumer law matters Drafting and reviewing commercial contracts including equipment hire contracts, IT, marketing and supplier contracts About you: You will be a disputes lawyer with at least 5 years’ experience with a reputable law firm and/or in-house experience Strong insurance litigation or commercial litigation background is essential Any compliance and privacy law experience is desirable Some contractual background is useful You will be a confident and clear communicator who is able to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organisation A commercially aware candidate with a pragmatic, practical approach and a good sense of humour is sought What this role offers you In this role, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits including: Competitive remuneration Flexible working arrangements Supportive and inclusive team culture Ongoing training and development opportunities Purchased extra leave program 12 weeks Paid Parental Leave in addition to government parental leave scheme Location: Sydney Ready to take the next step in your legal career?
