DESIGN MANAGER - DEVELOPMENT — The Rocks, Sydney

Building & Construction Other Sydney Permanent / Full Time Our client is a leading property developer known for delivering iconic multi-residential and mixed-use developments across NSW. With a focus on design excellence and commercial viability, they are seeking a Design Manager to lead the design direction across a dynamic project pipeline. As the Design Manager, you will play a critical role in shaping and managing the design vision across multiple projects. Working from early site feasibility through to design development and authority approvals, you will ensure that all projects align with the company’s design and commercial objectives. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with the development team to assess site opportunities, land use, and project feasibility from a design perspective. Develop and manage architectural concept briefs that align with project goals, market positioning, and planning constraints. Lead the engagement and management of external design consultants, including architects, planners, and specialist advisors. Oversee and drive the design process through all pre-construction phases, ensuring high-quality, coordinated outcomes. Chair regular design coordination meetings, ensuring clear communication, accountability, and milestone achievement. Review and critique design documentation for alignment with commercial feasibility, planning requirements, and design intent. Liaise with internal stakeholders, authorities, and external consultants to navigate design challenges and regulatory approvals. Maintain strong oversight on design quality, innovation, and alignment with project budgets and timelines. Support the transition of design documentation into the early stages of delivery, maintaining design integrity throughout. About You: A tertiary qualification in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline. 5 years of relevant experience, with a strong background in large-scale multi-residential and mixed-use projects. Proven experience managing the design process within a property development environment. Strong understanding of planning controls, design excellence principles, and local authority requirements. Excellent stakeholder management and consultant coordination skills. Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and general office tools (Microsoft Office).
