Mechanical Designer - Materials Handling Designer — Brisbane CBD, Brisbane

Mills Recruitment is seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer – Materials Handling to join a leading engineering firm on an initial 12-month contract based in Brisbane. This role is ideal for a designer with solid experience in chute work, plate work, and materials handling systems within mining or heavy industrial projects. The Project Involves a greenfield crushing and screening plant, a 15km overland conveyor feeding an existing stockyard, and the installation of a new rail-mounted stacker. There’s also a significant expansion of an export wharf and conveyor system included in the scope. Responsibilities include: Prepare mechanical layouts, 2D/3D models, and detailed construction drawings. Design mechanical systems including silos, crushers, conveyors, and transfer stations. Ensure all designs meet applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations. Participate in constructability reviews and coordinate across multiple disciplines. Conduct site visits as required to resolve design queries and verify installations. Review scope changes and assist with project coordination and documentation. About you: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent drafting/design qualifications 5 years’ experience in mechanical or bulk materials handling design. Strong background in mining infrastructure projects is highly regarded. Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, Bentley MicroStation, and Navisworks. Understanding of mechanical interfaces and plant layout in a multi-disciplinary environment. Must hold full Australian working rights – no sponsorship available.
