Your opportunity: Our rapidly growing Digital & Information Group is expanding, and we are seeking an OT (Operational Technology) Engineer to join our newly established Operational Technology Applications team. The Digital & Information group is responsible for digitally enabling Urban Utilities today while transforming our future capabilities to enhance digital services for our customers, community, and people. We drive Urban Utilities’ digital & data strategy, oversee the digital portfolio, and manage IT, OT, data, IoT, security, infrastructure, system administration, network operations, and support services. Reporting to the Lead, the OT Engineer is accountable for configuring, maintaining, and supporting critical OT systems across our industrial environments. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of SCADA, historian, and network infrastructure, while contributing to automation, cybersecurity, and compliance initiatives. This role is contributing to the success of Urban Utilities by supporting innovation, improving reliability, and promoting sustainable practices across diverse projects, thereby enhancing the quality and efficiency of services provided to the community. Key Responsibilities Configure and maintain Plant SCADA / Geo SCADA systems, telemetry and alarm logic. Set up and support OSIsoft PI and eDNA historians for trends, logs, and reports. Automate tasks using PowerShell (e.g., AD operations, asset reporting). Deploy and manage VMs in VMware ESXi/vSphere environments. Perform backups and restores using Veeam or Octoplant (Versiondog). Administer AD users/groups and GPOs. Monitor and troubleshoot OT network issues (Modbus, OPC, TCP/IP, VLANs). Assist with firewall configuration, VPN access, and network segmentation. Support cybersecurity compliance (IEC 62443, NIST) and audit documentation. Apply patches and remediate vulnerabilities in OT systems. Contribute to multi-site deployments and maintain technical documentation. About you: Education & Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; foundational certifications in programming or cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, Salesforce) are a plus. Experience: Demonstrated success in designing and supporting scalable OT solutions in enterprise environments. Technical Skills: Background in SCADA and historian systems (OSIsoft PI, eDNA). Proficient in PowerShell scripting and VMware ESXi/vSphere. Familiar with backup tools (Veeam, Octoplant) and OT networking (Modbus, OPC, TCP/IP). Knowledge of cybersecurity standards (IEC 62443, NIST), AD, and GPO management. Soft Skills: Ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and support IT and OT operations. Customer-focused with a strategic and curious mindset. Demonstrates integrity, authenticity, and values diverse perspectives. Agile and adaptable, embracing change and new challenges. Strong planning and decision-making skills to drive safe and effective outcomes. Desirable: Certifications in OT cybersecurity, VMware, or Microsoft technologies. Experience with multi-site industrial deployments and technical documentation. Other Requirements: Security clearance or SOCI compliance may be required based on role scope. Performance of ‘on call’ duties are an inherent requirement of this role. This requires that the employee must be available to be on-call and to attend to work matters, both in person and remotely, outside of normal working hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, as reasonably required to fulfill the requirements of the position. The days, times, duration and frequency of on call arrangements may be subject to change, including at short notice, as required by Urban Utilities’ operational needs as applying from time to time. At all times whilst on-call, you must be fit for duty, contactable, and able to respond, including the ability to physically attend if required, to the operational needs of the business within a reasonable timeframe and in a safe manner. The requirement to undertake ‘on call duties’ arises from the critical nature of the role including key responsibilities for ensuring the continuity of essential water and wastewater services on a 24 hour 7 days per week basis to customers and the community across Urban Utilities’ geographic area in performing functions as a distributor-retailer under the South-East Queensland Water (Distribution and Retail Restructuring Act 2009 (Qld). The remuneration for the role has been calculated to include compensation for the requirement to remain available to perform work during on call periods and for the performance of work outside the ordinary hours of work as part of on call processes and otherwise.
