Cross River Rail is a new 10.2km rail line including 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD, with four new underground stations at Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street and Roma Street. The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority is also tasked with multiple supporting projects and activities, including accessibility rebuilds for eight surface stations, construction of three new stations on the Gold Coast, upgrades for stabling yards, track works and surface rail enhancements, and the introduction of a new world-class digital train signalling system. About the Role We’re looking for a motivated Legal Counsel to join our in-house Legal team. In this role, you’ll work closely with the Senior Legal Counsel and play a key part in delivering high-quality, independent legal advice to the Minister, Board, CEO, and Delivery Authority staff on matters impacting the Cross River Rail Project. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-profile infrastructure project of State significance. You’ll be part of a collaborative legal team that supports and protects the interests of both the Delivery Authority and the State. This role would suit a legal professional with approximately 1–3 years post-admission experience who is keen to broaden their expertise in a fast-paced and complex legal environment. This opportunity is offered as a 2-year contract with possibility of extension. Key Responsibilities: Provide independent, high-quality, timely, solutions-focused and authoritative legal advice to the Delivery Authority Support the Corporate Legal team’s delivery of land tenure arrangements and land handback processes, and manage property-related legal risks Advise on legal matters affecting the Delivery Authority’s corporate functions, including legislative, contractual, property, regulatory, and administrative issues Contribute legal input to CEO, Ministerial, and Board briefing papers and other communications Review, research, interpret, and prepare both written and oral opinions on a range of legal issues Draft and review contracts, leases, and other legal documentation Collaborate with other government agencies and authorities to support state-aligned outcomes Instruct and supervise the work of external counsel and manage legal services cost-effectively Provide internal training on legal issues as required Contribute to legal knowledge management for the Delivery Authority Comply with all internal policies, procedures, and safety requirements, and demonstrate alignment with the organisation’s values and behaviours About You: You will be able to demonstrate the following: Legal experience in the delivery of major infrastructure and/or government projects Property law experience is desirable, particularly in commercial development, transport, or infrastructure projects Excellent legal writing skills, including the ability to draft commercial contracts, legal correspondence, and briefings Strong verbal communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills High levels of self-motivation and effective time management skills Mandatory requirement: You must be admitted (or immediately eligible for admission) as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
