Your opportunity: Our rapidly growing Digital & Information Group is expanding, and we are seeking a skilled Senior OT (Operational Technology) Engineer to join our newly established Operational Technology Applications team. The Digital & Information group is responsible for digitally enabling Urban Utilities today while transforming our future capabilities to enhance digital services for our customers, community, and people. We drive Urban Utilities’ digital & data strategy, oversee the digital portfolio, and manage IT, OT, data, IoT, security, infrastructure, system administration, network operations, and support services. Reporting to the Lead, the Senior OT Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and support of industrial control systems across our operational environments. This role is critical in ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of our OT infrastructure, including SCADA systems, network segmentation, and cybersecurity compliance. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders to deliver robust automation solutions and mentor junior engineers. This role is contributing to the success of Urban Utilities by supporting innovation, improving reliability, and promoting sustainable practices across diverse projects, thereby enhancing the quality and efficiency of services provided to the community. Key Responsibilities Design and implement scalable SCADA systems (Plant/Geo SCADA) with advanced scripting and alarming. Integrate SCADA with historian systems for analytics and diagnostics. PowerShell scripting for automation of backups, GPO deployments, and infrastructure audits. Manage VMware clusters with high availability and disaster recovery. Maintain version control and configuration management via Octoplant. Enforce AD security models including RBAC, OU design, and hardened GPO . Design and manage segmented OT networks with VLANs, DMZs, and protocol zoning. Conduct security assessments, patching, and vulnerability scans. Apply cybersecurity frameworks (IEC 62443, NIST, SOCI). Lead multi-site OT deployments and support commissioning. Collaborate with vendors and stakeholders on system design and delivery. Mentor junior engineers and oversee technical project tasks. About you: Education & Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Automation, or related field. Experience: 4-7 years of experience in OT engineering, SCADA systems, and industrial automation. Technical Skills: Proficiency in Plant/Geo SCADA platforms and advanced Cicode scripting. Strong experience with PowerShell scripting and automation tools. Hands-on experience with VMware infrastructure and disaster recovery planning. Familiarity with Octoplant or similar configuration/version control tools. Deep understanding of AD security, RBAC, and GPO management. Proven experience in designing and managing segmented OT networks. Knowledge of cybersecurity standards (IEC 62443, NIST, SOCI) and best practices. Performance of ‘on call’ duties are an inherent requirement of this role. This requires that the employee must be available to be on-call and to attend to work matters, both in person and remotely, outside of normal working hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, as reasonably required to fulfill the requirements of the position. The days, times, duration and frequency of on call arrangements may be subject to change, including at short notice, as required by Urban Utilities’ operational needs as applying from time to time. At all times whilst on-call, you must be fit for duty, contactable, and able to respond, including the ability to physically attend if required, to the operational needs of the business within a reasonable timeframe and in a safe manner. The requirement to undertake ‘on call duties’ arises from the critical nature of the role including key responsibilities for ensuring the continuity of essential water and wastewater services on a 24 hour 7 days per week basis to customers and the community across Urban Utilities’ geographic area in performing functions as a distributor-retailer under the South-East Queensland Water (Distribution and Retail Restructuring Act 2009 (Qld). The remuneration for the role has been calculated to include compensation for the requirement to remain available to perform work during on call periods and for the performance of work outside the ordinary hours of work as part of on call processes and otherwise.
