We are seeking a qualified and experienced Maintenance Fitter/ Engineer to work in a full-time, permanent position located in Moreton Bay, just off the shore of Brisbane CBD. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a unique, beautiful location while playing a vital role in maintaining and operating the sewage treatment plant to ensure safe, sustainable water management for the island’s facilities and residents. In this role, you will be responsible for: Maintenance of island machinery, equipment, and facilities: Continuously monitor system parameters to ensure optimal performance and identify any operational issues, including responding to alarms or malfunctions. Preventative & Corrective Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance tasks, and immediate corrective actions to ensure the plant operates without disruption. Compliance & Reporting: Ensure all operations comply with environmental regulations, health and safety standards, and local authorities’ requirements. Maintain accurate and detailed logs of all system activities, maintenance work, chemical dosages, and other relevant data. Maintenance of STP Systems: Manage the operation of the sewage treatment plant (STP) when required, by monitoring and controlling the treatment processes, pumps, blowers, filtration units, and other mechanical systems. Sludge & Waste Management: Oversee the sludge treatment and disposal process, including the safe and efficient handling of by-products. Emergency Response: Respond to urgent situations and breakdowns promptly, implementing emergency procedures to prevent damage or system downtime. Team Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with the maintenance and environmental services teams to ensure that the STP meets operational and regulatory requirements. Effectively communicate with management and external parties regarding any issues or improvements needed. Equipment & System Optimization: Ensure that all treatment equipment is regularly cleaned, calibrated, and performing at peak efficiency. Assist in identifying and recommending improvements to enhance system reliability and reduce operational costs. To be successful in this role, you will need the following At least minimum of 3 years’ experience working in factory maintenance wastewater treatment, environmental services or similar field. Understanding of STP systems, treatment processes, mechanical systems, chemical dosing, and troubleshooting. Familiarity with local and federal environmental regulations regarding wastewater treatment and disposal. Strong troubleshooting abilities and the capacity to take immediate action during system failures or malfunctions. A strong commitment to safety, adherence to work health and safety protocols, and the ability to maintain a safe working environment. A valid White Card for construction work. A current Australian Driver’s License, as travel across the island may be required. Experience with or a willingness to learn how to operate SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems for remote plant monitoring and control. Salary range of $70,000 - $90,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
