Position Overview We are seeking a skilled and self-motivated Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our field operations team. This critical role involves servicing, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy machinery, vehicles, and equipment across remote construction sites. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, be comfortable working in remote settings, and demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving. Key Responsibilities Conduct regular servicing, repairs, and preventative maintenance on construction equipment, including earthmoving machinery, diesel engines, utility vehicles, and generators. Perform fault diagnostics and mechanical assessments both on-site and in-field under minimal supervision. Respond to equipment breakdowns and emergencies efficiently to minimise project downtime. Maintain accurate maintenance records, service logs, and inspection reports. Ensure all mechanical work complies with safety regulations, environmental requirements, and manufacturer specifications. Coordinate parts procurement, tool maintenance, and on-site resource management. Liaise with site supervisors and project managers to schedule equipment servicing and repairs. Support site mobilisation and demobilisation efforts as required. Requirements Trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Diesel Fitting, or a related field. Proven experience working with heavy equipment and machinery in a construction, mining, or industrial environment. Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with hydraulic, pneumatic, and diesel systems. Ability to work independently in remote and harsh conditions with limited resources. Valid manual driver's licence (HR or MR licence preferred). Willingness to travel and work across multiple remote sites in the Northern Territory.
