School of Architecture, Design and Planning – Faculty of EAIT Full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 2 years Base salary will be in the range $137,542.79 - $158,351.30 17% Superannuation (Academic Level C) Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment Based at our St Lucia Campus, Brisbane About This Opportunity This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lecturer (Level C) in Design to leverage their established expertise in design practice to contribute to the development of a growing interdisciplinary design program, alongside advancing design research. In this position you will lead the enhancement of student enrichment across both the curriculum and student experience, fostering industry engagement and partnerships. You will collaborate closely with staff in the School of Architecture, Design and Planning to elevate the program’s profile and impact, ensuring alignment with contemporary design practice and academic excellence. Key responsibilities will include: Teaching: Contribute to the advancement of an innovative, interdisciplinary design curriculum by revising existing content and developing new course offerings that enhance contemporary design education. Deliver engaging lectures and tutorials, coordinate courses, assess student work, and provide academic support and counselling. Ensure teaching practices align with relevant University policies and standards. Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise Higher Degree by Research students and lead engagement opportunities to support their development. Provide effective leadership by offering feedback, coaching, and professional growth opportunities. Manage staff performance and conduct throughout the employee lifecycle in alignment with University policies and procedures. Citizenship and Service: Contribute to strengthening strategic industry partnerships that elevate the design program’s profile and impact, reflecting its interdisciplinary focus. Maintain a strong record of internal service, actively participating in committees and collaborative decision-making. Fulfill administrative responsibilities as needed, consistently demonstrating UQ values. Provide leadership through mentoring, fostering collaboration, and supporting staff wellbeing. Research: Maintain an active research profile through high-quality outputs, including scholarly publications, industry-relevant work, and non-traditional research outputs. Support knowledge transfer and the commercialisation of UQ intellectual property to benefit research end users. Conduct independent and collaborative research that influences policy, practice, or commercial outcomes, earning national recognition and building international standing. Lead and coordinate strategic research collaborations across the University and with national and international partners. This is a teaching focused position. About You Completed PhD or equivalent in Design or equivalent professional standing, demonstrated by a minimum of 10 years of industry experience in design practice. Recent and active engagement in interdisciplinary design practice, with a demonstrated ability to integrate contemporary industry practices into teaching and research. A strong understanding of current design industry standards, tools, and workflows, supported by national or international recognition (e.g. awards, publications, exhibitions, or leadership roles in industry). Proficiency in technical and digital design capabilities relevant to contemporary practice, including visual communication tools (Adobe Creative Cloud), Computer-Aided Design (e.g. Autodesk Fusion), prototyping tools and processes (digital and physical). An established profile within the design discipline as well as experience in training, leading, and mentoring design teams in professional and/or academic settings, with evidence of the ability to deliver high-quality learning experiences across a variety of contexts. A strong track record, or demonstrated potential, in leading or contributing to the development of educational programs, including course coordination, curriculum design, or the creation of training materials—either within higher education or through industry-based learning, professional development, or practice-led education initiatives. A record of meaningful contributions to governance, administration, and/or leadership within an organisation institution, along with active engagement with the broader professional and/or academic community.
