THE CLIENT Our client is a part of the Iconic Snowy Hydro 2.0 project in Cooma. They are a leading heavy mechanical engineering, services and contracting business operating throughout Australia and New Zealand in major capital cities and regional locations. They perform an integral role in the development of ANZ infrastructure across mining and resources, transport and power markets. THE ROLE The C onstruction Manager, Balance of Plant (BOP) Mechanicals , will lead and oversee all mechanical construction activities for the Snowy 2.0 project. This critical role will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of all BOP mechanical systems , adhering to project specifications, schedule, and budget. The successful candidate will be a strong leader, skilled in managing multi-disciplinary teams and subcontractors, with a deep understanding of complex mechanical systems within large-scale industrial or power generation environments. Project Leadership & Management: Lead and manage all aspects of BOP mechanical construction from planning through to commissioning and handover. Implement, and monitor detailed construction plans, schedules, and budgets for all mechanical works. Drive project success with a strong focus on HSE, quality, schedule adherence, and cost control. Assist with installation work packages, ensuring material and tooling availability at the work front. Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with quality standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements. Team & Subcontractor Management: Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of construction engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors. Effectively communicate work plans, expectations, and performance metrics to all team members and subcontractors. Oversee subcontractor performance, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, scope, quality, and schedule. Review and approve subcontractor's labour, materials, and equipment. Technical Expertise & Coordination: Provide expert technical guidance and oversight for the erection, installation, and testing of diverse BOP mechanical systems. Possess proficient technical and operational knowledge of systems such as (but not limited to):-Piping systems (process, utility, fire protection), HVAC systems, Circulating water systems, Pumps, valves, and rotating equipment, Air compression and distribution systems, Material handling systems (e.g. cranes) Oil handling and lubrication systems. Coordinate seamlessly with other disciplines (Civil Contracts) to ensure integrated project delivery. Reporting & Documentation: Monitor and report progress regularly, including daily, weekly, and monthly reports detailing construction status, delays, and mitigation plans. ABOUT YOU Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline. Minimum of [10-15] years of progressive experience in construction management roles, with a significant focus on mechanical systems within large-scale industrial projects (e.g., power plants, mining, heavy industrial facilities). Demonstrated experience in a leadership role overseeing Balance of Plant (BOP) mechanical construction. Proven track record of delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget. Strong knowledge of relevant Australian construction codes, standards, and regulations. Proficiency in construction management software (e.g. Primavera P6). Ability to work in challenging site conditions, including confined spaces, at heights, and varying weather conditions.
