What we do The Infrastructure and Operations Division maintains national critical infrastructure for Services Australia and across government. We deliver a robust, secure, and resilient ICT environment so Australian citizens can access government services 24x7. The Application Infrastructure branch is responsible for the provisioning and support of underlying applications and databases that support the agency's critical services. This includes performing ongoing maintenance to ensure vendor support and stability, providing incident investigation and performance analysis using advanced monitoring solutions. The Teradata Operations team looks after the performance, configuration and maintenance of the Teradata systems. We monitor the systems and provide 24x7 on call support to resolve any hardware, software, performance related issues or job failures. The team manages the creation of new databases and service accounts that allow other teams to run their scheduled jobs. We manage backups of the system and restore objects when necessary. The team maintains a Teradata Disaster Recover system and the procedure to recover from a production failure if necessary. About the role We are seeking a Database Administrator Expert (Teradata) to support the infrastructure platform, data structures and security model. You will be responsible for delivering a mix of priority technology projects and business-as-usual activities. Your expertise will enable you to engage in scoping, sourcing, and optimising database environments for analysis. You will apply innovative analysis techniques and model results and scenarios, while maintaining the integrity of the system. You will need to be proficient with database systems, data elements, application software and other tools to develop enterprise data solutions. You will use your experience and expertise across several contemporary ICT systems, servers, coding languages and databases. You will excel in fast-paced working environments and possess the ability to balance several key priorities simultaneously, while ensuring the highest levels of quality in the work being delivered by the team. As the Database Administrator Expert (Teradata) you will: Have extensive knowledge of Teradata products and environments. Manage performance, configuration and maintenance of the Teradata systems. Monitor the systems and provide 24x7 on call support to resolve hardware, software, performance related issues or job failures with appropriate escalation. Manage the creation of new databases and service accounts that allow other teams to run their scheduled jobs. Manage system backups and restoring objects when necessary. Maintain a Teradata Disaster Recovery system and related procedures to recover from a production failure if necessary. Monitor and maintain system related jobs that are run by the Teradata team and manage the reporting. The key duties of the position include Providing expert advice to technical specialists and stakeholders and seeking their co-operation in the provision of database administration. Scheduling and managing database software installations and upgrades to maintain currency with supported environments. Administering the database configuration, security, scheme and objects, ensuring compliance against agreed standards and guidelines. Leading and authorising the implementation of access controls to secure databases from unauthorised access and use and manage the data management process including initial loading, creating, maintaining, and distributing data. Reporting and investigating security breaches and database related incidents, analysing their impacts and applying remedial solutions. Escalating unresolved system issues to appropriate vendors or stakeholders and managing these in accordance with agreed service level agreements to minimise user/system downtime. Implementing corrective actions to improve performance and availability of databases, guiding and implementing strategic enhancements to the Teradata platform.
